Sim won't write

So I have a writer sim who is doing pretty well for herself writing books. At least, she was...

Unfortunately she's hit a bit of writer's block- a sneaky variant of the non-moodlet kind whereby she sits down to write for a couple seconds real time at the computer, then waves and gets a little blank-but-for-a-red-stop-sign thought bubble over her head, then gets up and walks away.

As you can imagine, this is putting a crimp in her 'bestselling novelist' plans. She just got the Creative Visionary trait.

Can anyone help me figure out why she's refusing to write?

I mean, it is very true to life. When I sit to write I end up on the sims... Hmm, maybe she's trying to tell me something...

Is there anything sitting on the keyboard (a book or plate)? Are there any plants or decorations too close to the computer? I've had Sims eat at the computer than leave the plate on the keyboard. I have also had decorations sitting too close to the computer, which resulted in my Sim waving her arms in the air and refusing to do the assigned task.

The plate thing was the first coming to my mind too, happens alot especially with laptops.

Have her try writing at a different location like a library, it'll tell you if the issue is her or the location.

Try disabling CC, a while back I encountered an issue of MCCC interfering with my sim's writing.
  • Do you have Wants & Fears enabled? Does she have a moodlet saying she's not happy/is angry because of wants not being fulfilled?

If so, she won't do what she's told until you complete one of her wants. I usually have a sim complete "listen to a favorite music" want to get rid of the angry moodlet, and then they'll do what you queue.

I think this is it! Thank you so much, it was driving me crazy erratic! The irony was her two main wants were 'have a child' (she was pregnant but I had it paused because of wanting her to complete some stuff first) and 'finish writing a book'. When she had the baby (A boy, Samuel) she started being able to write again.

Also, if you get a certain lifestyle and then become very tense, sometimes your sim won’t be able to do things. I had a sim who became technophobe and at one point couldn’t even use his woodworking table.

Getting rid of lifestyles my sim developed is one thing I cheat away sometimes.

I have this happen a lot. All you have to do is have your sim sit in the chair that goes to the desk and then click on the laptop and proceed as normal. Sometimes they just won't sit down and start using the computer and it's all computers, not just laptops.
