Sims 4 using 100% of my gpu

So is this normal? It's also using about 60% of my ram but that is with several other windows open in the background. I have a fairly ok pc, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz 3.79 GHz, 16 gb ram and nvidia gtx 1060 6gb. I play mostly on ultra settings. Has anyone upgraded to a never gpu lately and noticed an improvement themselfs? ( I've been looking for one for over a year, but it's nearly impossible to get one while it is in stock where I live )

  • Your computer's on par with mine (i7-9700 CPU and a 2060 RTX). Sims 4 just does that sometimes. My computer will sound like a leaf blower for a minute or two then get over itself. Not sure what triggers it, and Sims 4 is hardly the only badly-optimized game out there that makes computer cooling fans wake up the neighbors. (glares at Mount&Blade II: Bannerlord, which is to graphics card fans what a European proof house is to a firearm...)
  • I upgraded to a GTX3080 10GB (I got it 6 months after I reserved it), I did actually notice some small improvements but that's a graphics card that's way overkill for the sims4. I don't think the game have ever used 100% from it, that sounds extreme. The game is running on an old DirectX9 engine so a newer graphics card is not gonna do much except throw more power at the problem, so performance will improve but not very effectively.

Sims4 can use huge amounts of RAM, especially if you are playing on an older save. In my experience, the following will affect sims4 performance:

    • The size and age of your save.
    • The amount of objects on your lot and in your neighborhood.
    • The amount of played households and their inventory.
    • The amount of relationships in your save.
    • Using CC that's badly named (don't use special characters).
  • Thanks for both your replies, I will keep looking for a new card, but it's nice to know it won't make much of a difference in sims 4. I do not have any stuttering or lag, just found it weird it was behaving like this

I have an i7 11800h processer and i get about 20-30% cpu usage while playing The Sims 4. However while viewing the gallery in-game the cpu's fans seem to go in to 100% blast and temp goes up to 87c.
  • Maybe, if you have a Windows 10 PC or laptop play in Game mode? It promises to cut down on things that might run in the background unnoticed by you. I'd be careful about Ultra settings if you are getting problems like that. NVidia can set optimal settings for your game for you and it might not be in Ultra.

I've got an NVidia Geforce RTX 2080 Super and most of the Optimal settings are "Very High" with Sims themselves on "Ultra." It works very well for me.
You might have a more powerful machine though. Mine is about two years' old now, an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz with 16GB RAM
  • You could also try playing in windows mode if you don't want the game to stress your gpu too much, or while you look for a new one. I've heard that it helps. (I don't play that way myself, so don't know for sure.)
  • I don't know but recently my game do be running crazy on some lots

I think its because my save is already kinda old tho and it has so freaking many households and detailed builds in it  and game still be pushing out like trillion randomized sims in the mix that i try to delete but they always come back

also ive heard it might be good to have less stuff in your gallery library and clear cache once in a while

don't use mods tho so thats not a problem
  • TS4 is a very CPU-intensive game, it's par for the course. In fact, even on my gaming computer, TS4 will send the fans into high gear
