It's probably just a rumor. I don't thin EA would be foolish enough to risk losing millions of fans or millions of dollars by making Sims 5 a subscription service. EA also knows that making Sims 5 a subscription service would kill the Sims franchise,and I don't think they want to risk killing a franchise that has a huge fanbase.
