I never play with autonomy on these days because sims get distracted too quickly to get anything done, but all I know is my bookworm sims never picked up a book autonomously. That says pretty much all about TS4 free will. TV and computer will always be their priority until they wet themselves or almost die of hunger.
The only need they're good at controling is rest. Too good I'd say... My sims would always rush to bed as soon as their energy need hit the yellow. That's not even being tired, come on! And yet, they'd always do that. Was driving me crazy.
