Sims Blogs: What do you like to read and/or post?

What I like to see in a sims blog is different than what I actually put in my own blog.

When I read another person's sims blog, I like really good pictures, short paragraphs to go with each picture (about 3 sentences max), and lots of humor. But for my own blog, it's funny but I tend to go away from the game for awhile and then totally forget about camera mode. So I always start out with pictures that aren't great, although they do get better over time after I finally clue in, lol. Also, I don't really tell a story in most of my blog, although there are some exceptions, so it's more of just a record of what happened in my sims' lives, which is probably kind of boring to everyone else. I do try to throw some humor in there every once in awhile, but honestly, my blog is more for me than it is for other people even though it's viewable to the public.

What do you like to see in a blog? If you have your own blog, what do you like to post? And if you do both, are what you like reading and posting different or the same?

  • I agree with you on what I like to see. 1-3 sentences with pictures. If they throw in a paragraph now and then it's okay with me as long as they keep the pictures coming and go back to the 1-3 method. It's a sims blog.. I want to see the sims in the story. I have read a few though that had less pictures (although I was hooked in with more in the beginning). I think I continued to read because the story was vivid enough to carry it.

I like various types of stories. I like witty, tongue-in-cheek the most and make me giggle humor the most. Then I like more dramatic, struggling or conflict themes also. A romance can't be simple either.. that would be boring. Has to be a conflict or something to overcome.

I also will usually close up stories where cc changes the sims to something unrecognizable as sims to me. Like ultra realistic or all anime characters. I do like maxis match though and will read period pieces ect if they have the costumes down. It's impressive.

No blog here. I think I have pretty good story ideas but I can see it becoming work like. I think if I did a blog it would reflect what I like. I don't think I could keep it PG rated though.
  • Content-wise I don't think I'm drawn to any one specific type of story, but sometimes the formats people use to tell their story make it difficult for me to get into them.

I don't follow a lot of Sims story blog and the ones I do, I don't keep up with super regularly. Because of this I hate when someone tells a single story across many separate photo sets. I'd rather that they use each photo set to tell a single, self-contained story that can be read on it's own or with their other posts as a larger story. If that makes sense? It's just easier for me to catch up if it's organized this way.

For instance, instead of using 20 posts to tell about your Sim going to the Spice Festival and meeting a guy with screenshots of them from every angle imaginable and every single line of mundane dialogue imagined between them, I'd prefer it if they'd tell us everything in a single post with a good set of pictures and re-telling of what happened and maybe not as much dialogue (unless someone is really good at writing dialogue, I'd prefer to imagine most of it myself) before moving to the next plot point in a new post.

If I had an active blog (mine isn't lol, it's pretty empty), it'd probably follow a similar format to those I like to read.

edit;; For those who have blogs for modelling their Sims/builds and not story-telling, the only real preference I have is that they list any CC they use or allow WCIFs. I don't use it anymore, but when I did use CC I would hate not being able to find things.
  • I do think it depends on platform too. I'm on Tumblr and thus follow other Simblrs. It's kind of a common thing to chop things up in tiny bits so you have a steady queue of several posts a day, even if you don't play/write for while.

Personally I prefer not too much text in each post. I usually don't have time to read it. I prefer clear pictures with vibrant colours - if people over-edit or use certain reshade presets, it often doesn't draw me in. I don't like to ready stories that are too dramatic or basically are a soap opera. I don't mind a bit of drama, but with a realistic touch, or a supernatural one. I prefer it to be varied with happy and mundane moments. As much as I admire and appreciate bloggers who take the effort to write actual stories, I often prefer the ones that post gameplay with simple comments. One thing I really dislike are stories that skip so much and assume that you understand what happened in the meantime, even if no hints are given. I'd rather have a little too much exposition than read a story that doesn't make sense to me.

As for my own blog, I usually post gameplay pictures with my rather dry commentary. I have done dialogue based "stories", but I simply don't have the time or energy to do all that anymore. I do still make exceptions for holiday themed stories, like Simblreen and Christmas. Then I like to come up with more plot driven stories and even pose my Sims and write dialogue. Although last Simblreen, I did a set of pictures with more text, a sort of backstory album for multiple Sims.
In between of stories/gameplay I also showcase stuff I upload to the gallery.
  • @MDianaSanders I’m on wordpress right now. I’ve been thinking about switching to tumblr when I get to my next generation, though, because it seems like they have more of a community, like you mentioned. Besides, wordpress always has these super ugly ads they put on your blog, like for parasites or something with gross pictures, lol.
  • I'm not picky, but I also like the simple paragraph stuff.

Also, Is web comic site count as a blog? because currently I use webtoon.

I usually do the writing stuff wordpress but currently I just want to make a silly comic using my sims screenshot.

I don't think there's much comic style sims 4 stuff but if there is I would definitely read some.

I mostly follow legacy story but I also like sims 4 reality show stuff.
  • Mine is what I’d describe as “caption” style. Like the OP, it’s pretty much a record of my Sims’ lives. Each entry chronicles one week with a household, which can contain anywhere from 20 to 80 screenshots. (Though, to be fair, a lot of those are shots of the game UI-promotion messages, career dialogues, etc.)

Each screenshot some brief dialogue, either between the Sims themselves or between the Sims and myself, (“the mysterious voice”). I try to keep it light most of the time.

I also think i’m one of the last few still using Blogger....but it’s what I used back in the TS2 days and I kind of just stuck with what I knew.
  • @QueenofMyshuno I suppose there is the Simblr community - and the majority of them are really nice people, but there's also the occasional drama going on (it usually passes me by though, thankfully). There are even several Simblr discords you can join :) As for ads, I have them disabled on my blog, so they're optional. Not that I browse a lot of blogs, I usually read everything others post from my Tumblr dashboard.

@AkramA I know a couple of people who do Sims comics, but unfortunately they're currently on hiatus.
  • @AkramA I never heard of webtoon before, but I visited your blog to take a look - very cool.

@MaggieMarley I knew a toddler in real life who looked like Alina - super wide jaw. It was really cute but also really strange. She did grow into her face and normalize irl, so maybe there's hope for Alina, lol.

@MDianaSanders I'm usually pretty good at ignoring drama. Sounds like you are, too. It's so nice that you have the option to turn the ads off! I can in wordpress, too, but only if I pay them (which I'm not going to do).
  • Oh and the other thing I forgot to mention about other people's blogs is I like to see the premades that we all know (like Landgraabs, Goths, etc.). It's interesting to see what happened in their lives.
