sims CAN take a bicycle ride wherever

simgurufrost has confirmed we'd be able to use them wherever.

and bikes aren't limited to them roads like y'all what am talking about. imagine strolling through the beaches of brindleton bay and pinnacles of del sol valley. that'd be nice.

still no news for them kids tho.

Probably because kids can't ride them. Maybe they'll make that possible in a free update somewhere along the line, though...

Didn't they give off the impression at some point that they were changing the water in other worlds to be swimmable with IL? That never happened, so I wouldn't bank on them adding anything later for UD features.
  • You're right @sillehbee, the gurus did say they were working on it, but no news on that happening yet. They do a lot of updates for the base game, but adding new content that expands on features from past packs has not happened very often. If EA is smart, they'll release a pack next year that does expand on activities for kids, and adds to family activities as well. Activities for kids and families is pretty high on many players' list of most wanted new content. There hasn't been much of anything added for that age group since Seasons, so we're due for something new.

I wonder if sims can bike during blizzards.

there aren't any depth so that wouldn't be no problem.

I thought I read somewhere that they tried, but it kept breaking old saves. Darned if I can remember where or when, though.

Good that you mentioned that, bc it seems they never bothered revisiting this question ever again once we started forgetting about the failure that IL became. I'm still waiting on open water in the rest of the worlds; probably never happening, but can't hurt to imagine it.

Yeah thinking the same. That never happened and sorry but if you would throw a statement like that out in the dangerous world called: The Sims community, then you better make sure that happens in a acceptable period of time.

No - I never saw that they would expand the water in other worlds outside of simmers saying it - like they are talking about bikes here - just simmers saying it. But if the truth be told it is not that easy to make the water in finished played worlds that have saves work in this game when the water is a whole new and different terrain and programming.

With non-adult size sims to use an adult bike even if the programming was there for the kids (which it is not) - they will stretch out to adult size - so that means they would need to do all the programming etc for kids size, bikes for kids size and any mechanics that adult have that kid size doesn't have would need to be added to the game as well as the bikes. If any gamer maker did that after the fact - I'd be shocked - especially when the pack it is designed for is University - where kids do not even go except to visit a parent or relative now and then.
  • The only thing I could find about unlocking ocean swimming outside Sulani was a response from Lyndsay:

    https://twitter.com/SimGuruLyndsay/status/1138487751253217280

The way it was worded left a tiny shred of hope that it could still happen, and I guess we're all clinging onto that last bit of wording. If anyone can link to a response about how coding it to other worlds may not be very possible due to game issues like it was reported here, please link it. :)

Well linking to anything from a while ago is not allowed even if that post still exists - but when Sims Guru Daniel (a long time Sims game designer) was still at Maxis we asked about swimmable beaches after Daniel gave us the free world and he said none of the water in Sims 4 was swimmable - that the only way it could be was if they made a brand new water terrain in a new world.

Granted he never said they wouldn't do it, but they never said they would either. In fact the longer we didn't have swimmable water the more players seem to think we never would - especially with save issues in finished worlds.
  • I agree with @Writin_Reg about swimming one day being in all the older worlds that we had before Island Living. The teams tried to do it, but older saves would be lost in the process so the idea was scrapped. DU will have swimmable areas because it is a new world. Most of the new worlds in the future will probably have water terrain for swimming because that type of terrain is easier to add to a new world while it is in the development stage.
