I really hope the gurus address this & if it's something they will update or change in the future to be more impactful on game play because right now it's just a fancy animation that doesn't impact game play.
Okay so the sim gets their motives drained, then swims to shore and then disappear off the lot & fixes them up, so really it doesn't do much other than just a fancy animation. Not impactful at all.
I must say the Sims 4 as a whole does have a lot of unimpactful animations/things sims can do. One thing mods do do is add a tonne of new moodlets for more impactful interactions.
