What annoys me the most is that I buy the medicine and it doesn't seem to work, as soon as the buff quickly runs out - their sick again straight away. I've tried the tea/juice and it doesn't help much either, same issue as the medicine.

I hadn't thought about dirty objects or about the Dr washing his hands - didn't think they'd make this game THAT realistic lol.
Drink the tea and or juice right after the medicine, they will be healed and not get sick for awhile. When you first go to the hospital one of the first things is to learn to wash the Sim's hands. Read the text accompanying that list of things to do. ETA: Also read the text when they fumble when taking a temperature etc. It does matter in my game or at least it seems to matter. But getting the reward to stay healthy actually works 99% if time.
