Although I mainly play one family I usually focus on the female head of the household because she's the one who will complete all the different careers, aspirations, skills, managing retail and restaurants, etc. Sometimes when it gets a bit hectic I'll move the 3 kids in with the grandparents and just play mom, dad, and the dog. Right now my sim is on a 7 day solo trip to Selvadorado and having the time of her life. I also always start with a single sim who lives alone for quite a while before looking for a partner.
