Single Sims are boring

That’s what has always made Maxis so great. They make games that all types of people can find joy in.

Also, my sister is this type of Simmer. I let her use my account when she's around and all's she ever wants to do is create families and find and design houses for them. That is the part of the game that I find SO BORING. If it takes me more than 15 minutes to create my family AND their house, then it's taking to long. I would much rather be playing them. My sister, on the other hand, will hog the computer for 3+ hours working on designing ONE perfect family. The way she plays drives me crazy. And anytime she sees me playing, she begs me to let her "fix" my Sims because she thinks that the way that I throw their outfits together is painful to look at. Lol.
So, yes. I have definitely experienced other play styles first hand. And I don't have to understand why my sister thinks her play style is fun. I just have to accept that different people play the game in different ways. And I honestly think it's great that there is one game that brings so many different types of people together into one community. It's awesome. I love the Sims.

I like single sims, they are just easier.

I generally start with a single YA Sim, eventually get him/ her married off and start a family. Once the kids have grown, I am usually tired of the family life and will keep one of the YA children single as long as possible, sometimes waiting until they've reached near the top of their career (I play with aging off) before I have them get married.

I prefer single Sims. That way, I can do whatever I feel like, when I feel like it.

In my main save, I have my family of Sims (5 in total), and I also have a single Sim I switch over to play. The single Sim is a musician who moonlights as a DJ in the nightclubs so when he's not out spinning tunes he's working on licensing music. I have fun sending him out to explore the worlds and meet new Sims. Unlike in my main save where I'm feeling pressure to have the current heir get married and have kids (I may switch to his half-sister since she's becoming friends with a Sim who is the product of alien abduction) I don't have that pressure with my single Sim.

Most of my sims are married. I do have some single sims but I generally marry them off and or give them a pet.

I enjoy sometimes playing a single sim in a rotational system. It is however hard for me to stick with just the one sim for a long period and I often feel the need to add a pet, a roommate, a kid, or a partner. Sometimes I fight that need and persist until the sim dies of old age alone (but with friends and a nice community), but I have to admit that oftentimes I end up adding someone else to the housheold.

As for popular playstyles that just aren't for me, well, challenges in general. I don't like rules in my game unless the rules are my own, and even then I find them hard to follow. I don't see the appeal on achieving so and so goals or having 100 babies, or have each generation being colour coded.
I like to feel free and jump from one thing to another without anymore restrictions than the ones the game already has.

I'm mostly a single sim player too. The style I can't play is legacies. I can't play families for longer than short spurts (like a week or so on rotation). The real saving grace playing families is how frickin cute the toddlers are. I can get excited about the thought of playing families and have all these ideas and even enjoy it for awhile but it mostly ends up that I'm micromanaging tasks for them, pausing all the time to switch around. I'm just not challenge or time management drawn to playing the sims and that's what it always feels like I'm doing eventually. Can be fun for a little while but I don't want to live there.

On a single sim. They can do what they want when they want. Works better if they don't go to work but even if they do it can work really well. They want to go on vacation with the two days off they have? Boom.. no need to coordinate, they go... they can even invite someone. I know I can play it where one sim just goes and leaves everyone behind but then lol .. they just want to keep on going. I also usually play with the "always welcome" bought trait. With this they either invade others homes to cause havoc or help them out.. depending how I'm playing. They could just go to work on a serial romance or friendship aspiration... or they could go to clog toilets.. or they could go and use all their skill stuff or mentor family members. Sometimes I go into build mode while there and change around the houses where the other sims live.. mostly giving them better stuff.

With a single sim I can make full use of clubs how I want too. They can even sleep during club gatherings and I don't have to take care of the other sims at all. I can also create other story lines depending on the sim I'm playing (often using clubs). Fight clubs, romance clubs, dinner clubs, pub clubs, nerd clubs (helps to build a rocketship faster that's for sure) ect... Currently I'm working towards setting up a club to replace all the rich premade guys in the game with their superior clones (yes I know it's just another sim.. could just keep the first one) but it's fun to me because it becomes a story.

I do often have one other sim in the household that is a helper to my main or first sim (usually with the clean trait). I usually end up getting attached to them though so have to end up moving them out and giving them their own life in the end... especially after my main sim has done most of what they set out to do. I still almost consider this playing with a single sim though because the focus is on the main one.
If my sim decides to have children in their household ..they nanny and butler up... it's still a lot of switching but my sim isn't completely drained just watching and caring for a toddler (although some days can be like that).

We all play the way we like. There's nothing wrong with any play style that brings someone fun or satisfaction.

I have to add the one thing I don't understand about people that put down playing a single sim is they always seem to assume it's a "party" sim. Weird to me.

The only time I've played a single Sim is at the start of Pinstar's Legacy Challenge. But, there are specific goals in mind, which keeps me from getting bored.
