I have noticed this to and it's a little disappointing to be honest. Not trying to compare it to sims 3 but even that had it where the ground would have snow sticking sometimes when it wasn't considered a winter season.
But we asked for realism and realism is it has to be solid and pretty deep frozen ground - which takes weeks - not days in real life. As long as any grass and plant life is alive - means the ground is not frozen and puts out thermal heat that melts snow on contact. Air temps can stay freezing and still not get ground cover for a month or more. That is reality. We get what is called a deep freeze - several times before snow finally starts sticking.
Previous seasons we had in the game was not realistic to me as it snows a lot of times before we get ground cover - believe me. But once we get several deep freezes and the ground becomes rock hard - then snow starts building on the ground. We start getting freezing weather in early October but generally don't start getting snow sticking much before Thanksgiving - yet we get lots of flurry and snow squall activity through out October and November. Most Thanksgivings here we don't have snow yet on the ground even though we may have had numerous snow storms - In fact I can count of one hand the number of times in the last 50 years that we have had sticking snow before Thanksgivings (around Nov 27th) - so that is very realistic. Technically what people call a blizzard in the Sims is not really a Blizzard in real life - that is just heavy flurries where I live - lol, A true Blizzard is considered a Winter Hurricane - they have names even, just like any hurricane and go on for up to two days. Be glad you do see that realism. This past winter we had one a week - every week for about 7 weeks in a row. So sometimes just a taste of realism is better....
I used to play a game that had some pretty realistic Blizzards - Ice Wind Dale - and it was okay to play in for programmed characters - I cannot imagine something like that with the more realistic sims style. I prefer Sims style weather - with just a taste of each season and a fair degree of realism. Our Sims would never survive a true Blizzard.
I don’t know what reality you are living in, but the ground doesn’t have to freeze to get a coating of snow. It literally snowed last fall out of nowhere here, and there was a healthy dusting of snow. Sure it didn’t last a long time because it wasn’t cold enough, but to suggest snow does not accumulate on the ground unless the conditions of winter are present is just false. It’s not reality; It’s a bad oversight, or a technical limitation in this pack.
