From what I saw in the livestream, they do indeed still get satisfaction points and yes, you can still delete the wants you don't wish to fulfill. I understand they'll work much the same as the whims but be more in tune with the Sim's personality than whims were.

They're replacing Whims with the new Wants system. Think of Wants as a bit of a whim-upgrade, from what I've seen so far.
