Socialize with Co-Workers/Classmates

So what I am referring to is the pie menu option when your sims are at work or school. My question about it is, is there any logic to the rate relationship builds?

I make most of my sims socialize so they can make friends with their coworkers and for my kids for make friends in general but it seems like some friendships build faster then others.
Scenario: My sim meets Cassandra Goth at school and a whole week goes by and their relationship has barely made any progress. Same sim meets Yuki Behr and in two days are almost friends. Is this just some randomness or is their some logic to this. I also ask this cause there are times my sim never make friends with any of co-workers/classmates and other times where they make several.

I like to make clubs for the kids and teens that live in each world so they're only making friends with people who live near by. I think it's strange when a child lives in strangerville but brings home a kid from brittleton bay.
As for the question I guess I've never had my Sims meet anyone at school to test this out. I wonder if it has to do with traits as to why some build relationships faster.
  • I've always suspected that several of the pre-made Sims from Windenburg had a built-in social buff that seems to make it easier for my Sims to become friends with them, especially Candy, Joaquin, Jade, Luna, Morgan, and Yuki. I started looking at the traits of pre-made Sims in expansion packs to find out why many of my Sims were drawn to chatting with certain Sims but not others even when they seemed to have nothing in common. Either it's a hidden social buff or my Sims are just drawn to pre-mades that have the Creative, Goofball, Loves Outdoors, and Outgoing traits which seem to be used over and over again by whoever makes the pre-mades, especially female pre-mades.

I think it’s a good way to start friendly relationships that make sense for your sims. I use it just to see who my sim ends up meeting at work or school and then from there I build the relationships as I see fit. One of my sims is currently having an affair with Bjorn Bjergsen and she initially met him at work which is a fun detail so now I can imagine it started as a work place romance. (This is as opposed to me just picking a random sim for her to have an affair with. I like making some of them enemies with their co workers too since it’s a relationship that makes sense rather than a random one)

I don’t think it has a purpose beyond introducing sims though. In the sims 3 (at least for kids going up school) it had two options on the pie menu - one, to meet new friends and two, to socialize with friends so I think that second option did build the friend bar

A related question - do your children and teen sims only go to school with kids in their home world or neighborhood, or do they go to school with kids in all worlds? I’ve never paid attention before to who it generates as their friends they meet at school

I've been playing in Glimmerbrook, and my child sim made friends with Lucas Munch from Windenburg, and several others I forget. But there are no other child sims in Glimmerbrook, though I think that doesn't affect it. They make friends with children from all worlds.
  • I think they make friends with children in any world! In my current save, a girl that lives in Strangerville brought home a boy from San Myshuno after school.

Ok cool. My main child sim just kept bringing a sim from her neighborhood in willow creek with her, but that might have been since they’re cousins and already have an established relationship
  • Does flirting with coworkers actually build romantic relationship? I usually ignore all options besides make friends, work hard, or slack off.
