Some Toddlers are more "Toddlery" than others!

WARNING! This is a LONG post. If you don't like reading long, fun filled and funny posts, then you may want to "TLDR" this one and move on. If you DO go on to read this post, you have been warned so read on and forever hold your peace *LOL*

I'm going to preface this post by saying that I absolutely ADORE toddlers! The thing that made me the most mad about when the wishes/wants got changed up so that we could no longer lock in the ones we wanted AND DISMISS the ones we didn't, was it got RID of almost all the toddler wants/wishes completely! They rarely want anything, like ever, anymore! Made me so mad/sad because fulfilling those little toddler wants to play with things, or even to make messes, etc. was just so much fun! (I will state that I play with Free Will Off, so there's that too. I know from reading about other people's play that I miss out on a lot doing that, but I'm just too much of a control freak when it comes to my Sims *LOL* Maybe sometime I'll try a save with Free Will On, just to see some of the mayhem!)

Since then, playing toddlers felt empty to me. Meaningless. And didn't they get rid of the "Tip Top Toddler" trait, too? I seem to remember that being a trait that children could get if you maxed out all toddler skills before they aged up? Sure, now they can "Remember the Good Times" if they maxed all traits as a toddler when they age up, but it's NOT the same thing at all!

BUT! Now we get to the crux of my post! SOME toddlers, it would seem, are far more "toddlery" than others! In the family I've been playing for a while now, the wife (CAS Sim) and her husband (Akira...Something or another, I can't remember the last name the game gave him before they married and I changed it to her last name "Phoenix". I believe he's one of the Sims that came with the "City Living" (Think I got the name of that wrong but oh well!) EP. All I know is that I liked the looks of him and his Everyday outfit and while I wasn't crazy about his traits (Specifically his "Jealous" trait) I knew I could cheat change them in CAS Full Edit Mode, LOL!)...The wife and her husband had a baby boy. Now, in light of Infants coming out March 14th, and the new Growing Together EP coming out March...16th, I think it is?...I've been SO tempted to KEEP the baby (Named him Blane) a baby, until I get Growing Together (As someone who LOVES family play, that was an absolutely NO BRAINER, MUST GET for me!).

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, I love playing this family so much, and with the idea of having possibly babies, infants and toddlers (Oh my!) to come, maybe in the same household all at once (Not likely, but possible!) I've decided to have him age up (Over time, I play with Aging Off too *LOL*) to a teen, to help with younger siblings to come after Infants and Growing Together comes out! Not to mention that I've not really explored the High School Years EP, so I'll do that with him once he's a teen, while I'm waiting for Infants and Growing Together to FINALLY come out! (The PEPS is strong with this one!)

So for now, he's a recently toddlerized toddler with the "Inquisitive" toddler trait. Akira took him for the first shot at learning how to use the potty chair. Blane ended up having a toddler chair "boo boo" and making a mess that made him sad. Ok, so send him out to use the Wabbit Tablet to work on his Thinking skill, while Akira cleans up the mess and then works on upgrading the toilet in preparation for when his son is old enough to use THAT! *LOL* After a bit, I saw that Blane was going to need to eat soon, so I sent Amanda (My CAS Sim, his mother) to go Play with him, then she'd take him down to the hight chair for a nice Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich for a late lunch. Well, the FIRST TIME I played to that point (I was having some difficulties with Blane's toddler room's bed, for some reason nowhere I moved it, would it seem he could be read to sleep in it! Still having troubles, but for now, it's manageable) Blane, who was sad still from the potty accident, refused the Play interaction with his mom, and got mad instead! So there he is, mad...Got him fed, back up to the potty chair for another go before putting him to bed after...And I witnessed the cutest thing! Amanda was a little bit irritable (But it wasn't her primary emotion) because Blane had been defiant about the Play interaction. So, after she put him down in front of the potty chair, she stamped her foot at him. Blane, God bless him, who was still Primary Emotion mad, stamped his little foot right back at her! It was so cute and funny and SO "toddlery", that I laughed out loud, literally!

Ok, so there was the trouble with his bed and reading him to sleep, so after changing things in his room around some, I decided to Save As the point there, in a separate save. Then, I reloaded the first save where it was at the point just after Akira took him to use the potty the first time and Blane had the potty accident. Figured, alright, "wash, rinse, repeat" I'll try it again now. So, again Amanda goes to Play with her son, this time he's happy to accept, and after she goes to get him that PB&J in the high chair. (But he's still sad from the potty accident). Well, Akira was hungry after working on one of the plumbing upgrades in the bathroom, so I sent him to go eat a BLT at the table too. Amanda gets Blane into the highchair, puts down the PB&J for him to eat. What does he do? What any "good" toddler does, he plays with it some, then smacks it off the highchair, making a mess because yes, "Food IS a fun toy!". Amanda had sat down at the table, and BOTH his parents gave him one of the Sim self-initiated "talking to's" about playing with his food and making a mess. Then, ROUND TWO, FIGHT!...Amanda gives him another PB&J. And Blane, still sad, plays with it again, and knocks it off the highchair again! Once more, both parents give him that "talking to" reaction.

And I'm sitting there watching this, going in my head: "Geez guys, he's just acting out because he's upset about the potty accident, give him a break!" *LOL*

So, two different saves, and Blane's absolutely adorable (A handful, but adorable!) in both! I am SO excited (And IMPATIENT!) for Infants, and the Growing Together EP coming out soon! If I can have moments like these, with Free Will Off, then I know I'm going to see awesome Family Game Play with Infants and with the Growing Together EP even with Free Will Off, as well!

And there. Long Post Is Long, but I'm finally done with it now! *Just laughs and runs off to play the game some more!*
  • Wonderful post. I hear you in so many ways. I've seen my Rock Star stamp his foot when one of his Toddlers (previous save now defunct) was defiant. Then, of course, baby imitates. That is one of the cutest interactions in this game. I also see the Toddlers play with the food and throw it every which way but sideways, too. Managed to capture some of the flying bits on a screenshot. I do believe it was Harmony, Twin B. She was a handful. I do believe the parents had a tiny tyrant on their hands. Sad that save is the one that's gone. I took aging off trying to play them while waiting for Infants and the new EP. Thought the January patch was 'it', made a copy of my save, or thought so anyway, pulled my Mods folder and then it turned out not to be the Patch. Could I find my save after that? No. And the one inside the folder wasn't working right, either. Ho-hum. I've restarted it twice. First time, it was player error. I played too fast, and ended up with a good couple of weeks, if not three before the patch, with only the wedding event to pass the time. :open_mouth: Since I had made other errors with said new save and I had the time, I restarted a second time. This save is the one that's going to be the keeper. I've dramatically slowed down my manner of play, once I got certain things done (Erik had to write 22 songs spread over four instruments) and the Teens are just now in uni. Yes, they graduated early. I plan on three terms only. If I play each Term for three RL days, plus, there's the pre-term time, I may just arrive right on schedule.

You are not the only one suffering greatly from PEPS, like I haven't in quite some time. It's great and we're now down to 14 days! YES.
