Yeah what im doing now is repopulating, Lots of woohooing and adopting here and there... SO how would i go about playing with genetics if the household is already in the map... Thank you for all the comments. This really bothers me that they dont even have the option. I'm spending a lot of time repopulating and not enough time actually building and working on the families i wanna work on
If you go to the menu (where the save button and stuff is) there's a 'manage worlds' option. If you click on that it will take you to the map where there's a 'household management' button at the top right corner. When you click that the list of all the sims/families in the town will appear. Click on the family you want to give a kid to and press the edit button (looks like a pencil). The CAS screen will then open and you can add a new sim by playing with genetics. It's handy because you can randomize it until you get a sim that you like the look of.
This is how I keep my town populated so I don't have to waste time playing with other families. - No story progressing. So all townies age. That's it. No marrying off, no children. Just sims going grey.

If you want families you don't play to have babies and stuff go to household management and add some kids into their household (preferably using the 'play with genetics' option so they actually look like the parents). It's not ideal but it works. I have townies who are the grandkids of the townies my game started with, which feels a lot nicer than the game continuously adding random strangers with no connection to anyone to the population.
That's a great idea; I've been moving households with either single Sims or just a couple of older Sims with no kids out into the Not in World population, then used the freerealestate cheat to add in some families with kids/teens (there were a couple in Unplayed Households and I found a few in the Gallery). My baby daddy Sim has been doing his part, but the problem is all his kids will be related to my Simself's family (except technically the ones that are adopted) and I want to make sure there are plenty of potential partners out there.
I'd like to see some sort of modified Story Progression, that would allow Sims to at least gain skills and job performance/promotions when I'm not playing them -- maybe even allow unplayed Sims to form romantic entanglements and have kids, or at least designate certain families to not get involved in outside relationships.- I use household management all the time to update and control the population of my town. This way, the core families have stayed around, and their genetics are being passed on. My third gen daughter is in a relationship with Bob Pancakes' grandson, actually. I've also added a few of my own sims too. I married some into families like the Goths and Landgraabs, and added a few other families to a couple of empty houses. The bonus to playing this way for me, is that I don't have to play the premades at all.

I remember reading about this awhile ago and wanted to try it. I need a little break from rotational so I'm going to give it a go. It sounds fun. :)
I was also think of trying out a challenge/expierment where I lock two sims in a small house, one with the good trait and two other "positive" traits but not romance, and then one sim with the evil traits and two other "negative" traits but not romance, and the goal would be to achieve the soulmate aspiration. I already have too many saves though. Lol. >.<"hmae123;12965340" wrote:

@hmae123 Thanks for the insight into another play style and the pics.
I truly hope they add some story progression, but with the choice to turn it off for those who have a different gaming style.
You're welcome! I've actually never played this way before. I've never really played the premades all, except a little bit in sims 2. But I didn't like the towns growing empty so decided to do something totally different then my normal play and found myself having blast. :)
I do remember reading something recently that they were going to look into story progression though. So hopefully they will tweak this soon.
I hope so soon too. i didnt realize the sims populating problem til now- I actually kind of like it this way, I don't really want the Goths to expand their family while I'm off playing someone else. To me it doesn't feel right with the premades knowing their stories.
But an option ( enable / disable ) would be nice, maybe even a general option and then one specific to each household. - GalacticGal10 years agoLegendTechnically, there is no story progression in this game, which is why the non-active households don't do much on their own. At one point a patch was put in, so that they at least now have jobs. (Not sure why that would matter, but for some it was a welcome 'fix'.) You can always play with the option "Aging On for Active Household, only." That may work to keep your town from dying off. I'm having a similar problem. I'm playing Pinstar's Legacy Challenge, and per his rules we can ONLY play the Legacy household itself. I'm not sure if it's against the rules to change the aging as I stated above, but it would thwart my interests even so. I count on my heir-apparent meeting his spouse in grade school. If the rest of the town doesn't age up unless I'm playing them, and that's not allowed in this challenge, then his sweetie won't become a teen, nor a YA when I normally have the heir marry and start his family.
