Can the lot where the giant plant is be changed or replaced? Or will this break the game?

I think you would still need it. After the mission, there’s an option to revive the giant plant and choose another Sim to go through the mission again. You can choose the level of infection so you can start halfway if you wanted. I’ve not explored editing the base. I just leave it be after the mission.
