Subdividing a large lot?

I built a tiny house village on a 64x64 lot. 5 houses on the lot, with 8 residents. Three of the houses are occupied by three individual Sims, then the other two are occupied by a single mom and her daughter and the last house is occupied by a single dad and his twin sons. It’s a lot to watch over; 8 Sims is the max you can put on a lot. When playing that many sims with that many houses, you have to make sure to lock doors for each household so that the other sims dont try to take over homes that aren’t theirs. I would suggest not using any laundry day items like a washing/drying machine or clothes lines, unless you want keep doing laundry majority of the time. The bonus for playing a lot like that is that sims never get lonely and it keeps you busy for hours just caring for each sim. Also you want to make sure a few of your sims have the “neat” trait otherwise you’ll be running around trying to make them clean. The cost of running a lot with that many houses is about $20,000 simoleons, at least for the lot I built.

Is this lot on the gallery? It sounds like something fun to try.

I'd never thought about doing that in ts4, but it's a great idea because i find large singular lots off-putting.

It'd be a tiny bit like sims 2 apartments if you just focused on one 'house' at a time and ignored the other sims, letting them care for themselves. You could do a sim day controlling each home, unless one of them did something stupid like setting something on fire. It would be pretty hard for me to resist jumping over to control the others!

I built an apartment complex with like common laundry room, swimming pool, and some leisure spaces. It's suitable for 4 "families".
At the moment the game is having some trouble with claiming beds.
It's challenging to manage different families in the same lot and the "pause" button will become your dearest friend but it is a lot of fun when you get the hang of it and they build very strong relationships with their neighbours.

I haven't actually built separate homes, per se, but I have built outlying houses, such as they did in the 18th century. I do like your idea, and may see if I can modify a 64 X 64 lot to accommodate a smaller version of both builds. It's supposed to be a rotation game save, but I confess, I end up spending way more time with the newlyweds!

I have several split lots in my game, even split city apartments. It works fine with the door lock system. The only problem I can think of is the 8 sims limit. So I often have one single sim in one if the units.

I've done it on a smaller scale, I had a 40 x 30 with 8 apartments on it and had 8 unrelated sims living there just to save space in my worlds. With locks, it works fine.

I thought about it, but haven't got to it yet. I have had a bad experience with a 2 family household in TS3 as I had an upstairs unit and a downstairs. I locked the door and allowed only the appropriate sims. They spent their entire time trying to use objects in the other unit's apartment. Therefore, I had to go back on that decision quickly.

I believe TS4 should implement a subdividing technique, such as placing a special door like TS2, so designate what is owned by who. It can be used for apartment buildings, 2 family houses, and many buildings per lot. Everyone wins.
