Successful wedding without much planning?
I play rotationally, meaning I normally don't find time to spend simdays on planning a wedding. I like the wedding features of MWS, but I realize that I will need a way to throw better weddings *with...

elopement, elopement all the way
find scenic spot, set some pretty clothing for your sims formal wear and you are pretty much ready
some of the worlds also have those built in wedding spots if want arch piano and whatnot
or romance festival is also kinda handy for that
if it must be formal event mws style I encourage home lot where you can lock all the doors and contain sims in area and theres no randomized townies to mess up everything
but also small lot with like 2 areas close to each other is good i think
like small area 1/ room for arch aisle seats
small area 2 /room 2 for dancing food and drinks and music and speeches and whatnot after party things (close enough sims really don't have to be routing anywhere far for anything)
toilet be probably useful somewhere close by too so they don't adventure for that
and you'll either want indoor venue or good weather probably unless its whole vibe that the weather was awful that day
make/ buy cake before event and put it in sims inventory you will need small dining table for it also
as for outfits i really find it easiest if you just set it in cas for formal and change your sims to that outfit when event starts
if want flowerpals or such i suggest you put those sims temporarily to your own household to have full control of those sims so it'll be easier to control them
clubs from get together might also help with making sims know people they want as guests or to organize the actual event
aaand yes autonomy off. otherwise it be zoo
if all fails then... idk guess we will just have to accept that it was one weird wedding
