Create Your Star Wars Story – The Resistance, First Order, and scoundrels are fighting to control Batuu, and it’s up to players and their Sims to determine who will succeed. As Sims undertake challenges and special missions, they can gain (or lose) the trust of the affiliation of their choice, unlock rewards, equipment, new outfits and critical missions that will influence changes to the world and tip the balance of power. - key features
Factions
The tension between the factions on Batuu is evident. Stormtroopers patrol the streets, searching for evidence of the hidden Resistance, and rebels carry out secret plans from their mysterious bunker. Even the smugglers operate a lucrative business, staying neutral to take advantage of both the Resistance and the First Order. So, which will your Sim join?
DJ R-3X, the droid in charge of the music at Oga’s Cantina, is the best point of contact for learning about the different factions.
... Increase your Sim’s reputation to rise through the ranks, from sympathizer or supporter to sergeant of the Resistance or First Order. If galactic credits motivate your Sim more than ideals, the scoundrels are always looking for assistance—that’s just good business.
... Climbing the chain of command by completing missions also begins to introduce new faction contacts. - blog
Learn what you can about them by talking with the locals before you decide who to support, or just dive right in! A simple drink at Oga’s Cantina or a conversation on the street could guide your Sim onto their path. ... You decide if your Sim dedicates themself to the cause or defects for another faction entirely. Whatever your Sim aspires to be—a Paragon of Hope, an Enforcer of Order, or a Galactic Privateer - Gameplay blog

Keep an eye out for Hondo Ohnaka if you’re looking for some slightly-less-than-legitimate work on Batuu. The charming and beguiling Weequay pirate-turned-businessman usually has a few missions for Sims who ask nicely.
Be careful about the missions you select! As a scoundrel, it’s important to ensure the Resistance and the First Order are more focused on each other than on your Sim’s activities. As you build up your reputation for one faction, it may drop with another, and scoundrels walk a tight line between the two.
The more Sims do for Hondo, the more their reputation as a scoundrel grows....
Did we mention the galactic credits? Sorry, we should have led with this: get rich as a scoundrel! - Gameplay blog

While enjoying a drink at Oga’s Cantina, make sure your Sim takes a moment to chat with DJ R-3X, the reprogrammed pilot droid spinning space jams. While he never leaves his post, DJ R-3X hears plenty of gossip… and he shares. A lot. He might even tell you the rumor he heard about the Resistance hiding in the forest outside of town.
To join the Resistance, your Sim will have to prove they’ll do what it takes to stop the First Order. - Gameplay blog

If your Sim succeeds in their attempts to aid the First Order, they’ll be rewarded with great power. - Gameplay blog

Missions
At first, missions will be simple, sending your Sim off to rifle through supply crates or chase rumors about the growing Resistance presence. As a result of completing a mission, Sims collect rewards—and earn reputation points with the associated faction. - blog
The Resistance will have you sneaking into the First Order District to uncover information, disrupt comms, and even sabotage the main headquarters of the First Order. The First Order, on the other hand will have you checking IDs of Batuu citizens, hunting down criminals for information, and even arresting Resistance sympathizers. The Scoundrels…well, they play by their own rules and do not have an agenda beyond earning galactic credits. Players that want to fall in with the Scoundrels will find themselves helping Hondo Ohnaka gather supplies, recruit crew members, and tackle a heist on Canto Bight for all the credits you could ever want ... One of my favorite side missions is actually one you can get from Savi’s Workshop in Black Spire Outpost. When you visit his shop, you can request a lightsaber challenge. This will allow you to have fun and exciting lightsaber duels on Batuu to earn rare lightsaber parts, credits, and even build your fitness skill in order to be more proficient at wielding your own lightsaber. - @SimGuruRomeo in Star Wars interview
Reputation Points and Interactions
As a result of completing a mission, Sims ... earn reputation points with the associated faction. Increase your Sim’s reputation to rise through the ranks...
As your Sim’s reputation grows, it also affects the way locals react to them. A Sim highly regarded by the First Order will find it difficult to chat with Resistance supporters. - blog
Similar to “The Sims 4” “Get Famous” DLC, other sims will treat you differently depending on your status. In “Journey to Batuu,” this pertains specifically to which faction you’ve aligned with.
“If you spend a lot of time with the rebels and you’re working on missions for them and socializing with them, then if you try and go hang out with the First Order, they’re not going to respond to you,” Pearson said. “They’re going to lock you out of certain things and certain interactions because you’re not their friend. You’re the enemy.” - Wash. Post article
