Can't say I disagree with anyone here, but I don't think Maxis want to focus to much on making the best possible lots, because that's what us players are meant to do.
But it certainly doesn't justify having downright bad and unrealistic houses, such as the Caliente sisters' house from The Sims 2. C'mon, that double staircase leading directly to the rooftop with nothing to cover it... :s In real life, that would no doubt be a problem if it rained or snowed.
