The Collector trait helps sims find two collectibles in one spot (Solved).

This has happened with two sims thus far, both having the "Geek" trait, "Appraiser" aspiration reward trait, and the "Collector" aspiration choice trait.

  • Appraiser only makes it so sims can sell certain collectibles to the Simsonian.
  • Collector states that sims can "find rare collectibles more often".
  • Geek states that sims will be "better at finding collectibles".

Perhaps the latter not only does something similar to the aspiration trait, but also gives random chances to find two collectibles in one spot. If any other sims (without the trait) do the same, then it's not the sim, but the spawn points themselves. Only other explanation would be a side-benefit to either Collector or Appraiser.

I do not have the expertise to read into the game's files, so any insight would be appreciated.

After some testing, I've concluded that it's the cause of the "Collector" trait from choosing a nature aspiration.

  • This clears up A LOT of mystery for me. I do have a sim working on the Archaeology Achievement and digs up two of everything. It does say in the description of the Geek Trait that they do better at collecting. "These Sims become Happy when Reading Sci-Fi or Playing Video Games, may become Tense if they haven't played much, are better at finding Collectibles, and can Discuss Geek Things with other Geek Sims." Mystery solved. I thought it was mod.

I'm currently testing to make sure it's just the Geek trait, and not a combination of Geek and Collector or something.
  • Ahh you could be right. My sim does also have collector. Interesting...

Does your sim have Appraiser as well?
  • He has not completed the Curator achievement yet so he doesn't have Appraiser yet. He does have collector and geek though.

Thank you for getting back to me so promptly. It's helping a lot. I'm currently doing one last test, as it seems that it may be the fault of the Collector trait.

    Here's my process:

  • Procure a sim without either of the two traits.
  • Collect items (only one each).
  • Add the Geek trait.
  • Collect items (only one each).
  • Add Collector trait.
  • Collect items (2 each).
  • Remove Geek trait.
  • Collect items (2 each).
  • Switch sims for one with neither of the two traits (to make sure it's unadulterated by the Geek trait).
  • Add Collector.
  • Collect items.

If this works, it's Collector. If not, it's Geek and Collector.
  • Well, I am generally a rotational player so I will try to keep track myself and see which sims can do what. My Forgotten Frog sim is not a geek but has the creator trait. I will pay attention and see how she does. It may be that having both ups your chances of getting two items. The sim that has both always gets two of everything except when getting stuff via fishing.

Only took one collection, but it's Collector that causes the chance for doubled items. Seems to be with crystals, fossils, MySims figures, and minerals. Would make sense, given it's basegame-oriented.

It's possible that it helps, but I'm still wondering what Geek actually does, given its vague description (in relation to collectibles). If it just makes it more likely they're rare, then that sounds exactly like the description for Collector. Perhaps they need another trait update.

Edit: Did more collecting with the Collector-only sim, and every last one resulted in two each. Yep, it's Collector.
