The hospital?

The hospital seems to be a little lacking. Can someone explain how it works? Like, simple it down, please! I get that our sims, if they get sick, can't visit the hospital and see NPC doctors. A little...

Sim not working as doctor can only visit hospital, when they are giving birth.
