Am I the only one who never associated the word "insane" with a mental illness? If the trait would have been called "bipolar" for example, I would understand this, but insane doesn't say anything about a mental illness, and I've never seen it like this.
100% agree. When I think of the word "insane," I think of the Joker. I'm talking cartoon character crazy. I think of it as being cuckoo in a way that is so over the top that no one in 2018 could ever possibly associate the term (taking context into consideration) with any real-world mental illness.
I might be offended if I were an unhinged megalomaniac in a funny costume with designs on taking over the world, though.- I understand where you're coming from but if you did suffer from mental illness and any of the symptoms such as hearing voices etc and then in your favourite game that's branded 'insane' then it would be a bit upsetting? mental illness isn't a joke and personally I think that it's great they changed the name, and it fits much better. I can see people arguing that the world is going 'too PC' but I think it's easy to say that when something doesn't personally affect you, if you were part of the minority affected you might feel differently? Not wanting to argue with anyone, I just think if a name change has the potential to mean quite a lot to someone and doesn't change anything in the game for anyone else, where's the harm?
- Netzspannung8 years agoSeasoned AceThere is some confusion and disappointment in this thread about a somewhat minor change in the game. I think I understand where you are coming from though. This change could be symptomatic of a much wider overhaul of terminology and a exaggerated sensitivity in media in general and TS in particular. So I will tell you two very helpful things:
1. This has happened throughout time. A good example are the racist cartoons of the 1930s and 1940s. Certainly considered distasteful and cringeworthy to any sensible human being today, but considered a hoot and a half back then. When these cartoons were called out for what they were on a broad scale, a lot of people were sad. They could not see the harm, because their skin was light and they lacked empathy. But they got over it and found new things to laugh about. This is a sign that humanity is evolving, it is nothing to worry about.
2. Once you have understood the following, it will change your life: Just because you are not offended by something, that does not mean it is not offensive. "Netzspannung;c-16437130" wrote:

like I said feel however you want just remember other people have the right to say how they feel to- humor is really important if people cant joke about things then they can't relax around people and they cant talk about things
right now you cant joke about so many things that use to be ok to joke about its not helping people its keeping them from being treated like everyone else I dont want people thinking I cant take a joke I mean it starts with jokes being off limits but how far will it go - GrumpyGlowfish8 years agoSeasoned AceI might be totally wrong about this (and I probably am), but what if they just changed the name of the trait because they're going to introduce actual mental illness as a well thought-out gameplay feature rather than a trait, and therefore don't want it to be confused with an already existing, poorly named trait?

that would be cool I would be ok with that- LiELF8 years agoLegendHere's a thought. Having an "insane" trait that implies a Sim who has a mental disorder, is about the same as having a "retarded" trait that implies a Sim has an intellectual disability. And we certainly won't ever have that. This is probably why it was changed.
(Edit: Yeah. The term is expectedly censored. But it's an old, crude term for a syndrome that used to be used rather freely when people were "joking around".) "So_Money;c-16437075" wrote:

I agree as well and I'm sure no one here is a super villain right"NorthDakotaGamer;c-16437176" wrote:
When I saw the change, I just assumed the the sjw type individuals finally pressured EA enough for them to cave. While I really don't care, since I use that trait sparingly, it just shows how being politically correct can completely ruin everything.
How has this ruined everything??
