The Photo Studio Object - Update

That thing needs some work! I can't fathom why they only made it work for 2 sims at a time and that you can't even take pictures of teens-elders with children! Grrr... (come on Maxis, you guys know family players love taking pics of their families!)

If you are like me and enjoy decorating your sims homes with personal photos, then hopefully this will help you if you didn't already know. And if you have more tips or tricks, share them. I really want to get a pic of my whole family but my sim can't take the picture and pose in it at the same time.

There are 2 slots on the photo studio thing for 2 sims to stand and pose. You can place chairs in front of and behind the 2 slots. I tried placing a loveseat behind, but my sim would not route to it. I will try to place a love seat in front next time. I have to try it in a room or on a lot with more space.

This is what it will look like: First time I tried it with a barstool in back, but the adult in back was way too high.

Update

I did it!!

Place 2 chairs in front of and 2 chairs behind the 2 sim slots. It took a little manipulation to get them close enough, yet leave enough space for the sim that is being photographed to get in there. Once you have them in place, it's all good. And you can place a loveseat behind and in front...I guess I just didn't move them completely away from the slots the first time. I used @catloverplayer 's advice and moved in a spare sim for the photoshoot. I cheated up her photography skill. Most important part for posing...freewill off and set a tv in front of the camera so they all stare at it and laugh a little. LOL

As far as I know, you can't. You can only have your sim take pics of others. I have tried running a photo studio before and the npc employees never took pics even though they were tending it.

I agree. I would like a "take a picture of me, please" interaction on the studio.

I do not have this expansion, so I was wondering: are there traits or anything related to photography?

For example, photogenic: your Sim looks great in every picture!

Nope. There is just a half-baked skill to go along with it. It only goes to level 5. Sheesh! Seems they only put half the effort into much of the EP. I still can't believe this photo studio thing only takes 2 sims pics. It still irritates me. This is only the second time I'm using it because of that. LOL

Every time I think there might be something I would be interested in with a new pack, it just turns out to be disappointing. It seems like everything they put out is about half of what we were hoping for. I hope this can improve in the future. :(

I hope you find a good way of getting your picture!

Try calling the sims you are taking a photo of there first. Then while they are standing on their slots, place the chairs. You will have to turn on moveobjects in order to place the chairs, though.

I was sooooo disappointed when I discovered that children were unable to take pictures with teens/adult :/ as well as the two sim limit. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to piece together the family photos like you did but man... I'm envious and want them!

The trick is to get the two on the chairs into a semi-decent pose and then quickly pause. If you already have the 2 sims that you are taking a pic of standing there, then it will immediately take the pic. It was trial and error and it did take a lot of patience. Especially since the poses get all messed up or repetitive. Don't even get me started on that dumb photobombing gnome.

What I do is add a sim to household with testingcheats and then cheat their photography skill to 5 . After the pic is taken I move the sim back out and into another house.
