I hear players say this but isn't that exactly what you ask for? "We want University, Cats and Dogs, Seasons..." The Sims teams are giving you what you're asking for, they add a slightly different take on it for each iteration to try to freshen it up but it's mostly the same content over and over as per player demand. When the Sims teams do innovate there's a segment of the player base who go into a rage.
They've had some great ideas, like the veterinary career and freelancing. (Both recycled content, though.) But let's look at some of their big innovations: StrangerVille (a pack nobody but Graham asked for), Eco Lifestyle (a buggy mess with the horrible NAP system, where build mode has more of an impact on the environment than your sims' actions), Journey to Batuu, and My First Pet Stuff.
I don't mind redone older content. Obviously they should give us old things we have wanted, I have no problem with that. I'd rather have tried and true over some of the dev's... unique ideas. And I don't mind fresher takes on an old subject. But a lot of their redoes are just "here's an old thing you like, made slightly worse." Cats & Dogs are the Pets pack of this generation, yet they lack all the small pets we had before (and sold one of those small pets separately) and made pets non-controllable. Compare that to Sims 3, which included fleshed-out small pets, controllable cats and dogs and horses. Island Living is a worse Island Paradise. This is the fourth iteration and things should be up to par with the past, or better. Seasons has been repeated three times, yet it's one of The Sims 4's most popular packs. The idea may be old, but it's still well-liked, and there was some innovation through the holiday system.
Which way do players want it, a rehash of all the old material or fresh and innovative because it's kind of one or the other.
Why can't we have both? Why can't we have a take on something we like, but better than what we have had before? Why can't we also have fresh ideas? People want new ideas too, and old ones.
A rehash of old stuff will always get stale the fastest.
Honestly, Sims 4 packs in general get stale quickly. JtB was stale on arrival, Nifty Knitting was forgotten about quickly, Eco Lifestyle faded into obscurity after a month.
Edit: My thoughts are all scrambled lol. But the tl;dr is that we can have new ideas and innovation. We can also have fresh takes on older things. But they all need to be of good quality.
