- It's all subjective. I gladly gave Maxis $29.99 for EPs in TS2. I even spent $50 on ShowTime for TS3. However, I won't give Maxis the $40 for these EPs or $20 for their GPs. I have a few times, like with Vampires, or Dine Out...but no, don't expect me to pay $40 for a so called EP compared to gameplay, content and depth in the older games to the EP-lite in TS4.
- I view all of my purchases as an investment. As far as I'm concerned, I've been playing The Sims for a very long time, I'm not stopping anytime soon and I get hours of entertainment out of it. I have some very expensive hobbies and I don't consider gaming one of them, Origin regularly have sales and you can get some great deals if you're patient. I don't personally feel the need to buy something as soon as it's released, I used to, but I stopped during the middle of the 3 era since I felt there was a decline in quality. Now I just wait, see if it's something I'd like, if so, I buy it at a later date along with any other Sims pack I like the look of. You'll never catch me buying My First Pet Stuff, not because I can't afford to, but because it's not something I want to invest in but I'm happy to buy anything I think looks good.
- @KottonKrown your point is a good one I feel. I own all the games, 1-4 and all the stuff/game/expansion packs that came with. When you add it all up it looks huge, but when you consider that was over the span of 19 years... and I still play them all from time to time, it seems to me like an investment well made.

I’m not sure a game with twenty seven pieces of dlc should ever be praised for not being expensive.
And no before anyone comes at me, the sims 3 store was optional. You didn’t have to buy any of it and in many cases (mine) I got it all for free via EP registration and points.
Try playing sims 3 without stuff packs or game packs. You wouldn’t want to as the game would be boring. Right now the sims 4 without any sales is almost £500 and that figure will continue to rise.
And for what it’s worth I have games from previous generations. I found my sims 2 expansion that was 19.99, I have a sims 3 expansion with a 24.99 price tag on it.
You don't have to buy any of the DLC. It's all optional, as well. Rather you find it boring or not without the packs, the fact remains all the DLC for Sims 4 is as optional as the Sims 3 store you deem as optional, as well.
And you do not have to eat three meals a day, but it sure is nice to eat three times a day. The point is that this game is not 'complete' without all DLC and that is what Midnight was aiming for. Are you telling me you could just play the base game right now, with the same enthusiasm and longevity as you would if you had all packs? There is a reason why most people do not bother with Sims games until three or four EPs release. - Lonewolf10447 years agoSeasoned Ace

With all honesty the base game for me was boring and dry being it lacked any real features and I had an better time with Sims 3 base game it had good features built into it since day one. However, guessing some of those with low end systems were very happy to play the base game for Sims 4 as it really did not or does not tax thier system much being Sims 4 is unable to scale to specs being used. Everyone in an since is on the same level playing field with some exceptions to graphicswise and that can be an drag on those with highend systems as it is impossible to take Sims 4 to the next level. - SimsBarbie7 years agoSeasoned AceFor me this game is not expensive. It's enjoyable. I don't get upset when I purchase the packs. But when I spend $16-$21 at a fast food joint for only 2 people, it makes me sick. At least i can use my dlc for years

I don't eat three meals a day, anyways. I only eat one meal a day. And you do have to eat. So your example is not really argued.
I have just played the base game, but why would I? I'm not one crying that the game is too expensive. I buy every pack, day of release, for full price. And you won't hear me complaining about it. Cause I understand it's all optional. Even the game itself. No one forces me to play this game. No one forces me to buy DLC. No one forces me to do anything. The only thing I do have to do is eat...
And if "most" people wait, that is another choice. And they'd be able to wait for packs for sales. But, as for me, I feel the game isn't expensive when I take into consideration how much time I spent on it, what I pay for hours enjoyed, and how much I spend on other silly things in comparison.
What a person "feels" they need to enjoy the game does not suddenly make it a requirement. It's still optional. A requirement is what YOU MUST HAVE to run the game. Such as a computer (or console). That is a requirement. A cool new shirt and a fun new feature... an option. - SimAlexandria7 years agoSeasoned AceI have played for 306 hours... I have most packs and have worked it out that I have paid slightly over a dollar an hour for entertainment. Which really isn't so bad ... and the more I play it the less I've paid per hour hahaha! It is expensive, but I got a lot more use out of it then other things I would have spent the money on instead. I have most of the packs but not vampires and not bowling stuff. I did get many of them on sale
- rpk3332367 years agoSeasoned AceI guess it all depends on what you like to do for entertainment. I've long felt that video games make for great entertainment value. The other night I went out to watch my alum college basketball game. I took an uber to and from, had some food and drinks with friends before and that night(roughly 6 hours) was over $200. I can buy a ton of gaming content for $200.
- CMDR_Double0077 years agoSeasoned NewcomerIt kinda sucks if you got this game in 2014 and stopped playing after the Spa game pack. To catch up it was roughly $300.
