My sims were swimming down by Foxbury, when all of a sudden one of them starts calling out frantically. I pan over to see a fin in the water swimming past her, and the "Fin Fear" scared moodlet pop up. Why are there sharks in university waters? I know shark attacks are a type of death (and that it can kill vampires), but I'll be honest in saying I don't know much about the death itself. Do they kill in any type of water, or only deep, Sulani-based water?

However, looking into tuning files, it turns out it's intentional and mainly encountered in fall.Sulani and Britechester both have shark danger level in each neighborhood, which are as follows:Safe (Ohan'ali Town and Gibbs Hill) - No shark sightings there!Mild (Lani St. Taz and University of Britechester) - Shark sightings, but no threat of being pulled underwater.High (Mua Pel'am and Foxbury Institute) - Shark sightings and a threat of being pulled underwater!Basically it works like this.If your sim encounters a shark or has been cursed due to banishing island spirits, there is a chance of being pulled underwater while swimming in high danger oceans. Sims who have already been pulled underwater have higher chance to be pulled underwater again.Sims who are randomly pulled underwater either get a scared or an uncomfortable moodlet. If sim gets the uncomfortable moodlet, they'll drown with a special death music. The death type is still drowning though...Mermaids can summon the ocean threat to pull sims underwater, but these will never result in death, thus always giving the scared moodlet.

I noticed "universityworld" and "fall" and that got me into that conclusion. How it affects the chances I don't know. Perhaps sims will be pulled underwater only in fall or something...So for now, I unfortunately don't have an answer for that...About vampire drownings.Drownings usually happen when the energy need falls zero. Vampires don't have this need (they have vampire energy, which causes death by sunlight).However, water gardens and the uncomfortable moodlet from being pulled underwater causes drownings regardless of the needs, thus allowing vampires to drown.

Just to clarify, vampires don't drown in the pond from Get Famous (unless they changed something recently), hence my confusion.I suppose I'll have to stick to the safer areas most of the time, and only swim in the dangerous ones if I've my eye fixed on my sims. I'd say there should be an anti-shark measure one can take, but common sense usually keeps the layman out of shark-infested waters in our universe, so perhaps that's not the worst example to follow, and I can always buy a boat or Aqua-zip otherwise.

I don't think the water garden one is normal drowning as the chance of it happening are affected by traits, mood, fitness skill, and how hungry the fishes are. I guess when they programmed it, they excluded vampires...

For now, let's say there are three causes of drowning:
1. No energy while swimming in a pool or ocean.
2. Random chance when sim jumps or falls into the water garden (it feeds hungry piranhas and sharks).
3. Being randomly pulled underwater and receiving an uncomfortable moodlet called "Deep Sea Horrors".

Hi KyreRoen, I can testify that vampires can die by dryer fire. I was playing Vlad and sure enough, he died from a lint fire in the dryer...oops.

I was only wondering about the parameters of the shark-related death. I had already confirmed that vampires can die of fire.

I'm slightly confused, however, as to what prompted you to "testify" to that.
