If you hold the Shift key while you click on object on build/buy mode, it will keep appearing on your cursor, so you don't have to click on the object in the catalog over and over again.
For eg:
Without holding Shift:

You can also rotate it while doing so.
I'm so glad you posted this. I'm doing a house on a 50 x50 lot and I plan on having 1/3 to 1/2 as a garden and I was dreading doing the garden because the small section I did took forever since I didn't know about this.
