Upgrading items will get you a focused moodlet. If your Sim is also a painter, not sure how high the skill must be, the Sim will be able to paint a mathematical drawing. If you paint this, and hang it on a wall, you can enable the aura and get focused when you need to. For some careers being focused is the ideal mood and will help you with promotions.
The crystals you dig up usually give an energetic moodlet, also really helpful for some careers and athletes.
