Wow. Where the heck do you live? I'm in the suburbs of an australian capital city.
Around the corner from my house, there is a house with a basketball hoop and mini half court. Across the road from it, there is another house with a basketball hoop.
My housemate has a weights machine... Ok, it's in pieces on the garage floor, he's yet to assemble it. I know quite a few people who have a weights machine, punching bag or exercise bike at home. Exercise bikes are far more common than treadmills.
The other thing that is really common here are trampolines. The house over my back fence has one in their back yard. Two houses down has one in their front yard, as does the house across from them.

So, the game needs exercise bikes and trampolines to be a bit more realistic for my part of the world. :)

I do think it does depend where you live and if you have the room. We have an exercise bike, weight machine/bench (dismantled in garage), punching bag thingo with pull up bar whatsit on the other side, hand weights and a set of kettle weights, we used to have a full sized electric treadmill, but my husband gave it to his sister.

Oh, and we do have a trampoline in the back yard. :D

I have treadmills, bikes for excercise, we use to have two treadmills. now 2 bikes I just bought a new one because it has a place for your laptop. I did think it was the norm. but I suppose Lots of people go out to fitness places. or just workout from videos.

I've lived in various sizes of towns, suburbs, and big cities over my many decades. Nobody I know has a treadmill, boxing equipment, or weight machine - the exercise equipment in the base game, which is specifically the equipment I was talking about, not every kind of equipment that could be added to the game. I have known people with small stationary bikes, but the game doesn't have those. I'm the only person I know who's had a rowing machine at home (but that's not an option in the game either). I used to own one back when I couldn't get to a gym or even out for a brisk-enough-to-count walk (I can't run or do a wide variety of aerobics because of a physiological issue, so I invested in something I could do while the babies napped), but we gave it up before long due to lack of space. I know people who own hand weights, and I own those too. But the equipment we have in the game now? Nope, don't know people with that stuff at home. I've only once been to a house with a trampoline, way out in the countryside. Maybe it really is a place-to-place cultural difference. I don't consider treadmills, boxing equipment, or weight machines to be average home fitness equipment; I've felt they suited only to Sim households that were rich enough to have a home gym sub for going to the gym or for Sims who were really obsessed with boxing to the point that the boxing ring wasn't enough. (I worked with a championship pro boxer on a project at one point; he didn't have a home punching bag most of his career.)

As a result, I'm aware that apart from jogging, for fitness my Sims can own a treadmill (basegame), weights machine (basegame), punching bag (basegame), or basketball court or net (City Living). Do you know many people who own those things IRL? I know zero people who own any of them. I'm looking forward to having low-equipment, low-cost alternatives for my Sims exercising at home when they don't want to head to a park or gym.

If you're living in a small apartment in San Myshuno, or a starter house on a 20x15 lot, some of those workout items aren't really practical unless you add a basement to your lot. The TV workout videos will come in handy for Sims who live in small spaces. Many players have asked for a return of the videos for that very reason, if your Sim lives in a small space. And jogging really doesn't last long enough to get much workout benefit -- it's fine if you get a whim to exercise or if you've got the Tense moodlet from not enough activity that pops up if you've got the Active trait, but it's not as deep a workout as it was in an open world environment like Sims 3.

Most folks I know do own a treadmill (or more often than not an object where they can pile clothes :D ). Exercise bikes are also fairly common; my father-in-law bought one when he needed to reduce stress on his knees that came from walking on hard pavement. Home weight machines are a little less frequent, but I've seen them in hotel and apartment fitness rooms. But that still depends on having the space for them. If you need to work out for your job task or for your aspiration, you might not want to head down to the gym especially if you've got a toddler at home and don't want to send them to daycare or call the nanny.

@luthienrising From what I've observed its entirely on the culture of the region not just the size of the city. For example, I grew up in what people call the Texas of Canada. In both big cities and small towns could find probably two houses in every neighborhood that had a basketball net somewhere (if it wasn't a dirt poor neighborhood and even then you'd find one somewhere), usually their driveway. And I have seen all the exercise equipment in base game in people's houses.
However where I am now its a big city thats half immigrants and half stoner hipsters and I don't think I've seen one basketball net or one piece of exercise equipment outside of a gym lmao The people who are fitness freaks either go to the gym or one of the abundant outdoor options (in the pacific northwest you hardly need exercise equipment anyway).

Like where I am there are so many biking trails and beautiful mountain trails you may as well buy a real bike and bike around.

@somethingstellar Ha! Can confirm. My daughter's out there and runs steep mountain trails for fun.

No one is criticizing the fitness pack here. I would be happy to get a new pack. this is just talks on real life fitness equipment....
Back to jogging for our sims. I had a very fat sim that I sent jogging 2 times a day, she did not have the active trait. she lost all the weight very fast a surprise to me how fast it worked.
But yes I want the new pack soon as it's out :) I just do not want to miss out no matter what pack it is.

Gyms can be pretty popular though in wet weather in the Pacific Northwest (or Pacific Northwet as it's also known). And you can get more variety at a gym in terms of exercise -- your gym might have a pool for lap swims or water aerobics, plus different types of equipment that exercise different parts of the body plus classes. I'm in the SF Bay Area (a few miles south of EA HQ, and here you'll see basketball hoops mostly on elementary school playgrounds, though there are some lightweight portable ones if you move from one house to another, you can take it with you. When I was growing up the basketball hoop over the garage door was the big thing.
