I like the dorm experience, plus it's a good way for my Sims to meet people especially potential romantic partners. My Sims are usually too busy building skills to socialize much, even my teens. And if they can get enough aspiration points to get the Observant trait that makes finding the right partner that much easier. :)
They might have improved since the last time I had a sim stay in the dorms. My experience of it was lots of annoying ugly random generated townies wearing horrible random generated outfits. Food and random items spawning everywhere and some horrendous camera bouncing while traversing the campus at Foxbury. I didn't enjoy the experience. I will give it another go sometime in the future.
Also just to add I hate the bikes in TS4. The constant getting on and off them for stairs and riding them in doors drives me insane.
