So this thread got me thinking...
If they added spells for kids, what, really, should they look like? What about toddler accidental magic?
I'm going to put some guidelines on this. I'm not a fan of things like "homework" spells that really have no "adult" parallel in the existing spell structure and would only be useful to kids, so I'm going to ask that any spell or accidental magic suggested is basically a limited version of an existing spell or spellcaster perk.
For example
Toddler Power: Unstuck. Adult Spell: Teleportate
If they "get stuck" in the high chair, in the course of their tantrum, they may spontaneously teleport to the floor, or their dollhouse, or maybe the toddler jungle gym.
Kid Spell: Snackeroo. Adult Spell: Delicioso
Kids can summon their favorite quick meal - Chips, PBJ, chicken Nuggets, etc.
Kid Spell: Treatify. Adult spell: Delicioso
Kids can transform dinner into a slice of cake, or a plate of cookies. With Parenting, adults can discipline them for skipping dinner this way.
What else might kids magic do?
I like these spells; they are very clever and well done. I especially like their names. I can't come up with such clever names myself, but I do have a few ideas. I would like kids and toddlers to react to negative situations or strong emotions with magic. When they are tense during a snowstorm or thunderstorm, it would be neat if they could teleport themselves back to their beds (to hide under a blanket) or into a closet, and alleviate their anxieties. When they are bored, they could summon their favourite toy to play with, or a children's book to read or a toddler book to look at, or conjure a child or toddler-sized invisible friend (like in TS3). If angry, they could make a mess from a distance, or destroy something nearby inadvertently, or maybe turn their parents into gnomes temporarily (after which they could be disciplined of course). I don't mind, and rather like, the idea of unique kid spells, which reminds me of the child versions of spells in "Makin' Magic." Some of these were powerful like "Age of Instant" (which aged a kid up instantly into an adult) or "Invisible Friend" (which conjured an invisible friend for the child). Of course, I knew we would not be getting any child magic, with all the new and separate animations that would require. Oh well, maybe someone will make a mod.
there's animations I hear in CAS for children to do "spellcaster" animation. So how hard would it be to code it into the game for them to do actually spells, or drink potions?
