To avoid alien abduction:
I just experienced my first in this game - Ethan was going outside to "Investigate". No - no! What I did was type in testingcheats on - and then shift click your sim, and press the top one "reset"....

There is a way to reduce the chance. Either through the scientist career or using the bb cheat to view all objects (don't know it off the top of my head but it's posted somewhere and carlthesim recently posted a video about it). You get the satellite (that otherwise is only available in scientist career) and can chose to keep aliens away or something along those lines. It also has another selection to increase chance of abductions (which I'm using).
They also won't get abducted I'm told unless you are on your home lot, so you could get rid of the telescope on his home lot and only have him use it on a public one.
