I actually didn't mind the store at all. I spent a couple minutes a day watching ads, waited for sales for items, and then took advantage of CYS when those went on sale. I was surprised, in the end, how little actual money I spent for a lot of content. Also, the advantage to the store is you could break up sets and buy what you wanted. Had this stuff pack been store-style, I would have passed on the ball pit and the huge tunnel thing and just gotten the slide.
BUT, and this is fairly major, removing things was a pain, collections didn't work, and the more content you had, the more sluggish the game was when in CAS and build/buy. I ended up removing most store content except for worlds and items like the tablet, playpen, changing table, etc. For furniture and CAS items aside from hair, I only used what came with the game/packs and used a ton of custom patterns for my variety. However, this was a problem with the way Sims 3 was programmed.
