I must moderate my original input a bit. My sims will visit a bar or lounge or park etc without a lot of transport logics. They will arrive in a world (in my game they are districts") far away a few minutes after leaving home, even if it's far away. Everyday activities will be less strict, especially if the sort of location only exists one place. I might use this logical thinking more regarding bigger and repete events in life, like getting a job or when picking one of several options. In my game many jobs are tied to specific community lots, and most sims would avoid traveling through the entire nation on a daily basis, but rather get a job closer to home. Train is fine, but airplane seems a bit off 5 days a week, both ways.
I sometimes use the transport map when a household moves, depending on why they move. Or a sim might first look for friends/romances in the same part of the nation where they reside. I have a few private high schools where students can stay at home, so the traveling distance might come into play when picking the school. No rules set in stone, though.
