Dynasty Q&A Recap
Lord Bransly (The Sims)
Sul Sul, Simmers! Missed our latest Developer Q&A with The Sims 4 Producers Azure, Natalie, and Xènia? Here’s a recap of our Dynasty Q&A:
Dynasty Membership
Any Sim family can become a Dynasty, royal or not. There’s no cap on Dynasty members, and both kids and adults (even those adopted) can join! Your Sims can only add relatives by blood, adoption, or marriage to their Dynasties. If you've got family members living in other households, you can invite them to join your Dynasty too. You can merge Dynasties through marriage, and when a baby’s parents belong to different Dynasties, you get to choose which Dynasty they join right at birth.
Prestige, Perks, and Ideals
Your Dynasty builds up prestige as members live by the values and ideals you set for them.
Increasing prestige level gives you points to unlock special Dynasty perks! The Head of the Dynasty can edit the Dynasty Values (Skills and Ideals) at any time!
The Scandal System
Scandals aren’t just for Dynasties, Sims who are not part of dynasties can still get caught up in secrets, drama, or even a little extortion. There are lots of ways to uncover Scandal secrets, from hacking and digging through trash, to exploring the secret passageway, or just asking around. Once discovered, Scandals can be kept quiet, revealed for all to see, or even used for extortion, with plenty of fun outcomes.
Scandals respect relationship boundaries, so if your Sim is polyamorous, romantic actions with others aren’t considered scandalous. A baby born out of wedlock is only scandalous if someone lies about who the parent is!
Heirs and Roles Players get to pick the heir themselves, and heirs don’t have to be the children of married parents. Dynasty membership is limited to family, not by world, household, or career, so family members ruling in different neighborhoods can all belong to the same Dynasty. Dynasty members can become Head by asking, extorting, or challenging the current Head, think Chess Matches, Duels, or even a fight. Otherwise, any Dynasty member who is ranked higher than the Head can just Usurp the position
Fun Facts & Cross-Pack Support If you have the Cats & Dogs expansion pack, your feline friends can certainly dress the part! There are fun new decrees, like The Silver Charter for elders, they no longer get 'woohoo exhausted' and have improved skill gain. There's a new crest wall decor object that you can customize with your motif. Sims can also paint it from reference for a hand-painted touch. Fun fact: we actually had to put Cordelia in a monogamous relationship so she could have a Scandal going on. She and Thiago were originally poly! Knight Sims are any Sim in the level 1 of the Noble Career! Anyone can be or have a noble advisor. You don’t need to be noble to advise, but you can combine both roles. Around level 4, nobles can knight other Sims.
