I think uncontrollable pets was an excellent decision. I loved pets in sims 2 and was really glad to hear that they chose to go back to that method. I only ever owned the base game in Sims 3 because that game took a lot of my play style choices away, but when pets came out for that, I came very close to giving it another shot until I found out that pets were just another controllable sim and not distinctively autonomous.
I have been less than pleased with the Sims 4 expansion packs up until now, but this pack is the first one since game release that I have completely lost time while playing and didn't want to quit to make myself go to bed at 3am, lol. I have actually lost sleep for two nights since release because I was so immersed in playing and wanted to see more. I've also had very little experience with any bugs so far, but then I haven't started putting any mods or CC back in yet.
I really feel that this expansion is the best one yet, and it contains a depth that has been missing from previous EPs. The animals are extremely believable and unpredictable if you don't know their traits. I feel that their traits system is MUCH better rigged than the sims themselves somehow, and I just want to interact with them all of the time and keep changing households to adopt more, just to see what they're like. And that's without even mentioning the CAP that goes above and beyond and the town of Brindleton Bay that is not only absolutely gorgeous and diverse in its areas, but has very big open spaces and completely new scenery and terrains. I just adore it to pieces.
I recently went in to have Bob Pancakes adopt a dog. After the npc brought three choices to me, I took two of them because they were both so different and I couldn't bear to pass over either one. My favorite is this giant sheepdog mix with a big head and great, shaggy body so she looks like a muppet, lol. "Her" name is Tom. :D I didn't change it because I think it's fitting and I love her so much I think I'm going to save her in my library to give to households in other saves. <3
I actually feel emotionally invested in these animals and I think that in itself speaks volumes.
