I have a household of The 3 Bears with Goldilocks. It might be interesting seeing "kelpies" roam around in my game and also have the cheat, if there is one to unlock hidden CAS assets.
My sims are vegetarians. I actively try to make them eat vegetarian meals. The way I see it, there are two types of merfolk diets. Merfolk that eat sea plants and merfolk that eat smaller fish.
Because my mersims are more like Children of the Ocean that are friends with fish, I have them avoid eating meat.
Granted, in my game, every lot has the cursed trait and cooking on a stove would almost always result in a fire. So, to avoid that, they eat harvestables, various salads, and various sandwiches. A well cared for garden can produce plenty of food with a high enough quality for a solid moodlet boost.
