University and rotational players...

@darrenfroggy Hmm, I did wonder about that. What I'm wondering though is if that will work a bit like careers; when I rotate away, they stay as they are. I know that terms would continue without me but if she'd finished her term, I wonder if her 'progress' as it were, would remain as it was. https://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/konfus/a014.gif I mean, she'll still be a student and moving her out of the dorm would still count as being a student because she'd effectively move to an off-campus residence.

My questions would be:

I rotate my families early Monday morning. How early would I have to enroll a student in order for their first day of term to be Monday?
If I play a full term and don't re-enroll by Sunday night, will my sims lose their room in the dorm while living through the weekend?
Like others have asked, will my sims lose their scholarships if they don't re-enroll before I rotate to my other households?

If they can enroll early each Monday morning without losing their scholarship while I was away, then if the dorm is a problem I'd do something like @MissyHissy suggested. Probably I'd have my students live in the dorm for their first term, kind of like first-year students at US universities, then move out to a residential in Britechester before I rotate away. But I would have to be able to wait to enroll them for their next term until I rotate back without any penalties for it to work out.

I am currently building a test-save. Will be interesting to make my own rules for Uni that works with my playstyle.

Hmm... will probably start of with a large household of background townie sims who I want to see as students and who I am perfectly fine with to keep an average grade and have no intention of playing more. Will be interesting to see if I see them on campus and so forth. Get a big household enrolled and as soon as they all are set up I will kick them out into unplayed individual households. They should just keep trucking along in the background but I would like to see it in action.

For me it is also a question of seasons. I mod my game to have a 3 weeks season and I don’t want my students to only have all their studies done during one season. I want them to feel the passing of seasons on campus too. Will experiment with this but I think I will end up doing 3 subjects a week which gives me 4 weeks of active study on campus. Like doing a 4 year education.With time off between Uni-week hat would give them holidays during their studies and I can let the entire world age up a bit while they are off-campus.

Season 1:
Week 1- enroll and prepp main household with student and jump around town. Age the world a few days
Week 2 - term, focusing extra on my played student, taking 3 classes. Ageing off
Week 3 - student holidays, play the town. Student might do some summer-class or just work extra for simoleons. Age the world a few days

Same for Season 2:

Season 3:
Week 1 - same
Week 2 - same
Week 3 - student will do something extra for their chosen degree. I graduated from a technical Uni and did a 6 month project at a company. I would like to simulate this for my students with clubs somehow. For a basic income you use your expertise somehow in a way that benefits whoever pays you. Might be a town, a company or something. Will make a little personal challenge out of this. A teacher might get to modify a perfect library for a town. I like to make my own challenges to modify town lots to fit my saves.

Season 4:
Week 1 - enroll for last year of Uni. Student have aged up almost a third of the YA bar. Let’s be a older and wiser student
Week 2 - starting final year, the big project is done and now it is “just” the last stretch.

Hmm... the benefits with this for me would be seeing campus life during the entire year and getting more time to play the town on the Week 1 and Week 3 of each season. I play pretty much the entire town so focusing solely on one household would go against the grain. Think this is right for me but will try it out in a test save.

Other possible combinations is taking Uni every other week and only doing 2 classes each time. Will see what the best version of taking 12 classes during 12 weeks is for me.

So I've done some testing on this and I've got good news.

Setup:

- Family of two (played household), one went off to college to a dorm.

Experiment:

- Switched back to the house at home after starting the semester, lef the student sim alone.
- Played through a three week period.
- Loaded back into the student sim.

Results:

- Classes and such get simulated up until the end of that semester/period
- Immediately upon loading, you're asked if you want to renew and continue
- Through that whole time, sim remains a college student as you'd expect from the perspective of other households.

This means as long as you play through the full semester and leave before the prompt for the next semester appears, you should be good to go. Just remember to leave aging off while you're doing college shenanigans. You could even create a whole student body of played households attending university until the end of time, forever stuck in their first semester.

I have some info on rotational play I’ve just done in the dorms with premade characters. I started with Cameron Fletcher in Foxbury. I played through his whole term. (A+!! He worked hard but did miss some time in classes and homework.) At 6pm on his last day of term, a pop-up asked me to either re-enroll or not. If not, I would lose any scholarships. I chose to re-enroll. He selected a different dorm (his dorm was so far away from his classroom building, he was late a few times, and the bike made it worse because stairs). At the time he was given this option to re-enroll, he was away at the Humor and Hijinks Festival. I was afraid he wouldn’t have a chance to pack his things, but figured it would be a good test so I went ahead.

He returned to his dorm 2 hours later and immediately he was given the Move Out event lasting 4 hours. So he gathered some things and packed a few sack lunches away into his mini fridge and was good to go. He got to his new dorm, and the sack lunches were gone from the mini fridge. So I guess food doesn’t travel well like that. He started his classes on Tuesday (just as he did on his first term) and I should mention, earlier I had decided to only give him 2 classes this term. I decided to switch households Tuesday afternoon.

I loaded up the Best Friends in Britechester and they had 3 classes completed, one with a B, the other with a B-. (They were enrolled in 3 classes each for 1st term so this makes sense, I checked an old save). The one who got a B is enrolled in 2 classes this term and the other one who got the B- is enrolled in just one. Their term starts the following day, Wednesday.

Maybe they signed up for fewer classes because I only signed up for 2 with Cameron. YMMV but I thought you all might find this helpful.

TLDR: Other unplayed households will finish their term with an average grade and automatically re-enroll with what seems to be a random number of classes. But maybe that’s only because the household I was playing re-enrolled. That’s why I gave so much detail above because there could be other factors at play.
Other played households will finish the term without you if you rotate away, and you may have an opportunity to re-enroll them when you return, but in one case I found my sims On Probation which was strange because I left them with GPAs in the B range.

I lost progress recently because one of my sims didn't go to his final exam properly so I needed to exit without saving.

Yes, the button to send them directly into the building would be nice. I'm ok with having the grades be kind of mysterious because that sounds pretty accurate in terms of the experience, but I agree that it would be good to have a fall back option if the attending a class function glitches out. That's basically what just happened to me. I sent him with plenty of time but somehow he didn't enter the building properly and wasn't registered as being in the exam.

I think I'll need to save more often right before a class starts.

As for the rotation, I might send more sims together as I get more used to things. I let this tester sim take a week off in between his second and third terms which kind of simulated a break. As for seasons, meh, I had thought I'd close the uni in the summer but it's summer now and I just want to play this household through.

Eh, this uni has several different sessions throughout the year. I'll say that even if I'm rotating away that the universities are continuing to educate sims, just not ones that I know.

I'm finding it very necessary to switch back and forth between the 'main household' and the college students because other wise my sims are growing old and dying before the college goers get home from school.

When I'm playing my rotational game, I only give my college student a few classes a semester also. Its probably a personal paranoia, but I'm always afraid they'll get too far with too low a grade if I'm not there with them.

Now I'm wondering if I should just turn aging off in my saves while in University.

I use the setting that allows only the active house to age in my rotation save. If you play your households fairly evenly it works out well. I played a few students that I would only play the first day of each term, and let the game take over the rest. I found that as long as I completed any papers or projects, and kept their appropriate class skills up (I think at about 6) they did just fine (one graduated with an A, the other with a B+).

How long can you play after the end of one term before you have to either re enroll or lose your scholarships? And does that timer keep running if you switch households before you re enroll?

I'm not rotating Sims while in Uni - One Sims at a time - to avoid the hassle but my Sim is friends with all my other sims just I don't play the other sims lots.
