Normal life span is far too short for me. I have problem where I get attached to TONS of Sims! I always jump between "Aging Off" and "Age only Active Household" and use MC Command Center to make my Sims live veryyyyy long! I usually am a control freak about any of my sims dying so I will do it for "story purposes" most of the time. haha. Anyway, these degree boosts are going to be good for my game I decided. I agree that the boosts are much higher than expected. I can already hear the complaints of University making the game too easy!
