University tips please

Hi, about to start playing this but have a few questions if people wouldn't mind advising me please.

First of all - what do you recommend with aging? I intend to send my sim away to university but obviously if there are younger siblings, they'll miss out on getting skilled and lots of friends if I'm not playing them. Should I just turn aging off?

Secondly, one of my sims is a teen living on her own. If I move her on campus will she lose her home? Will she come back to find it sold?

How many classes a term ensures a good balance of work and play?

Any other tips?

Thanks!

  • Oh, also, can you send a group of unrelated sims from your hometown to university? Say, a group of friends, to get them all educated?
  • I would turn off aging. I usually have my Sims take 2 or 3 classes. 3 can be a little hard so you might want only 1 or 2 classes the first semester. I think that your Sims home will be sold if she is the only one living there. Make sure they do homework before each class and any other assignments. They can also study for thair major with a book or on a computer. Emailing professors or going to office hours also helps. I does take some work to get good grades. Have fun!

    No.

You can, actually, if you want to make the effort. You would need to visit each household and have them apply to university and then add them each to the same dorm when they move in. You also need to get the timing right so they all move in over the weekend or, when you are switching households, you would lose progress for sims already there.

For ease, I just put everyone into one house before I applied, had them all apply on the same day and then moved them all to uni within minutes of each other (you can only move one at a time so you have to switch back to the original house, move the next one, rinse and repeat).

If you are playing a group, I would avoid doing more than 2 classes each as you may find it overwhelming. Also bear in mind that an elective is pretty much the same amount of work as a class, so if you do 2 classes and an elective that is like doing 3 classes.

I find it best to move to uni Friday night or Saturday and use the first weekend to do all homework, term paper and presentation, then do the next lot of homework as soon as you have completed a class.

Edit: almost forgot, get your sim to 'take notes' whilst they are in a class for better grades.
  • Join the organizations that relate to your major and try to reach at least level 2 in the organization. This will give you extra credit whenever you take part in the organization's activities.

Brainiacs: Foxbury Institute, benefits all majors
Bot Savants: Foxbury Institute, benefits Computer Science, Physics, and Villainy majors

Art Society: University of BriteChester, benefits Art History and Fine Art majors
Debate Guild: University of BriteChester, benefits Communications, History, Language, Psychology, and Economics majors

You can only join an organization if you are attending its University. The Brainiacs from Foxbury are especially helpful, since their main meeting place is a Study Spot and their main activities are homework, term papers, presentations, and study.
  • Also, I always enroll my Sims on Tuesday so classes start on Wednesday. That way they have a weekend to write term papers, presentations, and catch up on homework and general studying for final exams.
  • If you intend on sending your sim off to uni i would recommend turning aging off since your concerned about younger sibling gaining skills as there's no other way around it unless your sims stays home while going to uni.

Your teen will lose her home if you intend on having her go to school from campus since going to school from home is an option i'd suggest that if you don't want to lose your home.

For a first play through i'd suggest 2 or 3 classes till you get the hang of it or a routine down. I'm able to do a full class load and still have her party/have fun but it also depends on the class schedule and I've just gotten lucky with my sims schedule and gotten a good routine down to make it a good balance.

As for sending a group together i would make them all into one household first and than have them all apply so they can move together.
  • Thanks all. If I send a group with the method you suggest, they're all separate households within the dorm, are they? I mean, would I have to play each one separately? Or would I be able to control them all at once?
Also, is there any organisation that's linked to cooking? Or can you make organisations?

If they are all in the same dorm they will be one household, so you can control all of them.
No nothing for cooking and you can't make an organisation, you can make a club if you got Get together though.
  • When you enroll, you can select an elective. See if there is an elective tied to the cooking skill, that way your sim will advance in the skill while cooking.

For the home situation I moved in a house sitter to my sims home. When she graduates she moves back home and I will move out the house sitter.

About the home situation with the younger siblings, I would say turn aging off. Whatever you do, best not switch back home and leave your students unattended for longer periods of time, especially while the term ends. There are several people complaining about students failing class when players switch to other households.
