I still haven't had a single break-in from a vamp, though once, by living underground in a structure without an actual front door, just a stair hole, and making it a Vampire Nexus, researching lore, and praising vampires wherever he went, I did get a visit from Vlad one night. Not a break=in: A visit. He came down the stairs, then knocked at the bedroom door. I hastily awakened the Sim, so he could greet Vlad and invite him in before it was too late, chatted nicely, then made my Sim go back to sleep with Vlad in the same room. Vlad read a book, pausing now and then to growl. Then he left around 4 in the morning.
On the bright side, I have had some fun with the mods I am using, when playing the Vampire Sims actively. And the autonomy feature did work for Sims asking to be turned, and Vamps turning them, or offering to turn. Also, duel to the death mod works: though it wasn't autonomous, evil Vampire Max Villareal did manage to kill Vlad after about 5 duels.
Another mod that works well is the one for teen vampires to be allowed to spar and duel with adult ones.
And a brand new one that offers a social event of Vampiric Initial Rites (basically a Turning Party) was great fun, added a lot to the game, and worked perfectly as far as I could tell.
So I still don't get much from Vamps unless I start everything, but at least I have fun things to start, with them, now, and a more fulfilling way to build a clan and legacy.
But it is a huge downer that all the fun has to come from things modders have taken it on themselves to create in their spare time, for free, to fix a game that has the resources and people, such that it could have been done that well in-house, in the first place. And then every patch update, all the fun has to be rearranged and put back in to see what of it still works and what doesn't. The fact that so many people are willing to put so much personal time and effort into transforming the game into something they actually want to play, speaks volumes of how robust and dedicated the fanbase is.
For those who want the trimmings and trappings without the gameplay, why couldn't there be cheaper "stuff" options that are just the clothes, furnishings, and decorations, without the occult gameplay specific to that pack? Just offer to sell the stuff only, for about half.
