The fact that you're defending the nerfing of Dust Bunnies completely is the problem here. People are calling for content other people paid for (which for some might even be the only reason they got the pack.) That's why it's comparable to vampires.
The thing is though, they mentioned nothing in the live stream about getting free money without asking the bunny to search for it. They showed asking it to go search. I'll keep deleting the extra money but I hope in the future they think to mention things that could be detrimental for being playing certain challenges etc.
I don't see it very comparable to vampire. You know you are getting vampires when you buy a pack called vampires. It would be more like buying a pack called 'home taxes' then finding it includes vampires.
I don't know why people would be upset about being able to send them to find things though. It was shown in the stream and you can always just not ask the bunny lol.
Well to be fair, the people saying they want it nerfed implies they want dust bunnies themselves completely removed. Not just how many simoleons they're bringing in balanced. Or at least that's how it comes across to me
That's why I'm comparing it to vampires. Because dust bunnies were advertised as part of the pack, so people should expect there to be dust bunnies. I'm not even referring to the whole money bit. I'm literally referring to the fact that it seems people want the bunnies removed.
I haven't been paying much attention but I haven't noticed many calls for the bunnies to be removed completely, I've seen people complaining about the free money and about the value of gifts when asking them to go search. As you say, asking for things they showed off in the livestream to be removed, would be completely unfair, as people bought the pack for those things.
I have to say that as some one who likes the quirky things, I can completely understand why realism players would expect realism in a pack about a household chore. I would expect the quirky addition to have some way to turn it off. In that situation my complaint would be, not that some thing advertised and paid for should be removed, but that in the future they focus realism packs on.. realism.
It could just be how I took it too due to the title of the thread (despite it being tongue in cheek of course.) But if someone says "nerf the dust bunnies" to me, it literally means to remove the bunnies. But I also tend to take things literally so maybe I misinterpreted things. *shrugs *
I can defintely agree though on keeping realism packs realistic in the future. I think the bunnies are adorable, which is why I don't want them as in the actual bunnies nerfed. But yeah, going forward it might be best to keep the realistic chore-sy packs realistic and the quirky stuff in its own packs.
That's not what nerfing is though. That's removing. Nerfing by its very definition, is to reconfigure or redesign a character or ability to make it less effective.
I haven't seen a single person ask for dust bunnies to be removed. We're asking for them to be toned down because you can literally get 3 of them the second your lot loads up. There is no "just vacuuming" them. Your lot WILL be dirty multiple times a day.
That may be what nerfing means by definition. But in The Sims community nerfing DOES mean removing. And that's what I'm against. The complete removal of features. I don't know how it works in other games, but whenever somebody asks for nerfs in this community, the thing that they want nerfed gets toned down into almost complete oblivion where it doesn't even happen anymore. Maybe the devs or most of the community doesn't understand the difference, but that's what happens with nerfing here and that's how I take it whenever someone asks for nerfs. I go by the Sims definition."Pamtastic72;c-17831124" wrote:
If they took out the autonomous money finding and left it so the bunnies only find cash & treasure when you specifically ask that’s essentially a toggle. Then just decrease the chances they find Omiscan treasure or other super valuable items to like 1/50 and that should essentially solve that problem. Because you can get free money with Laundry day too if you choose the ‘search pockets’ option on the hamper. But it’s totally optional, granted though you never find more than a few simoleans, and I have never heard of anyone finding an $8,000 gold frog...not that that wouldn’t be kind of fun once in awhile.
I do think toggles would be a much better solution than the all out nerfing into oblivion. But I've always been afraid that some people just won't bother using them and still call for nerfs. Although I suppose different "levels" of toggles may help prevent that?
Something along the lines of?
Dust Accumulation
- Light (have to vacuum once a sim week, or something, depending on house size)
- Default (whatever the new default becomes, say once every 3 or so days depending size)
- Hard (this is where people who reeeallly want to clean once a day or whatever could click?)
- Off (just that... off)
And perhaps with a check box for
x community and residential lots
x residential lots only
Bunny Gifts
- Only when asked
- Default
- Off
And another check box
x gifts and money
x gifts only
And maybe a toggle to determine the prices of gifts? I don't know.
I don't know if the devs would actually give us toggles like these or not. But similar toggles could be used for occults and then maybe, just maybe vampires and spellcasters could be un-nerfed?
Vampire Activity
- Seldom
- Default (as in un-nerfed default... not the current one)
- Frequent
- Off (for people who want no break ins)
x All worlds
x Only Forgotten Hollow
Spellcaster Activity
- Seldom
- Default
- Frequent
- Off (Again, for people who don't want magic in their games)
x All worlds
x Only in Magic Realm
x Magic Realm and Glimmerbrook
Just to name a few ideas.
There's really no need for a dust toggle. The dust already scales with the amount of household members and pets you have. The dust needs to be toned down, and for those who prefer the harder option, we have the filthy lot trait for a reason. I don't think the filthy lot trait even does anything, why??
There are four stages of dust right?
Pristine, Dusty, dirty and filthy?
It's a simple solution to this to make it fair and balanced.
1: Change the amount of time it takes to get from pristine to dusty to once every couple of sims days. You should only need to vacuum once or twice a week depending on your household size and amount of pets, just like laundry. However, the amount it times to go from dusty to dirty is shorter, and even more so from dirty to filthy. If you stay on top of your cleaning it's easier to maintain, like irl.
2:Dust bunnies should only spawn if your floor is dirty, not dusty. So the third stage. The evil dust bunnies should spawn on the filthy floor.
3: Dust bunnies should no longer be able to find money autonomously. You now have to ask them to find you something, and the odds of getting the jungle adventure treasures should honestly be 0. There's no reason you should just happen to find priceless artifacts from the tombs of a foreign country behind the fridge. Befriending the dust bunny will give you higher cash rewards though.
4: Remove the associated buffs that make sims constantly inspired. It's stupid, and I'm mad at whoever came up with that idea.
5: Remove the animation that plays whenever a sim enters a new floor. Why?? All it does is cause routing issues. Why do sims have to inspect their surroundings EVERY time they enter a new floor?
There's nothing wrong with these proposed changes and makes it more balanced. Now, some people might not like the jungle adventure change, but it's obviously way too easy to get them. They exist in the tomb behind danger for a reason.
2. I'm not sure how I'd feel about having to wait until "dirty" for dust bunnies. I'd probably be inclined to keep my house dirty if that was the case. Unless of course, there was a cheat added to summon them. So I'd almost prefer they pop up when dusty, but maybe it could be like two or three days in on the "dusty" level and not like right as it turns dusty?
3. I defintely agree with getting rid of the finding money autonomously. Since I don't have Jungle Adventure, I don't know exactly how I feel about that change you proposed. But I think befriending bunnies should defintely award you with a higher rewards and not as much if you don't befriend them.
And yeah, a permanent inspired buff defintely does seem annoying. I actually hate how my Sims are constantly happy because I choose to put them in a nice house for my own sanity. It might be better if it's reoccurring like for a certain length of time every day or something. I defintely want other people to feel it's worth their money too while getting rid of the permanent part of the buff
Well, if you befriend a dust bunny it never disappears, so getting dirty isn't that bad. You should have to work for them imo, like other strong creatures like the cowplant. Even if you had to wait until dirty it wouldn't take long though.
