Way too much phone action now during chatting

Maybe it's because I have idle chatting (meaningless small talk) modded off, but the three teen sims that I just had chatting paused to get their phone out about 15 times in a three minute conversation. And that was with all the regular play with phone interactions also modded off. There's a wonderful new idle called "Idle chatting listenwithphone stc".

This obsessive phone use is the major issue I have with Sims 4! Glad to see I'm not the only one bugged by this. I also play a couple saves where the people wouldn't even own cellphones since they're fantasy realms. I wish we had a way to turn phones off too. But, if we can't have that, I wish so much that they would address this issue and tune down the frequency of our sims picking up their phones. It's invasive and game breaking. Sometimes I get so frustrated I realize I'm not having fun anymore. :(
  • Per using mods, this is great I suppose if your playing on PC but what about players on console? More so, having come back to the Sims 4 I DO believe that the Sims now spend A LOT more time on their cellphones/aka the idle animation has been increased recently.

For example when I ask them to walk somewhere they LITERALLY do it blind now while staring at their phone and before I left to go play Sims 3, I recalled them maybe checking it once?

Plus its literally just repeating the same 3 second animation over and over - very clearly. I mean you can see the animation start and restart, its very immersion breaking and feels like a bug.

More so what about sims living off the grid? why would they have cellphones or at least constantly be checking them?

More so have developers taken into account people that have been killed or seriously hurt because of cellphone distraction? This animation is almost triggering as I personally know 2 people who have been seriously hurt because of distracted drivers or walked into traffic.

The develops are constantly talking about making Sims 4 a "safe space" but they are literally glorifying an addictive issue that at the VERY least should have ways to remove, control or alter it as i mentioned before. This is like game design 101 for a life simulator. Options.

I agree, this idle animation really should be removed. It was one of the first things that struck me when I updated game before HSY. Also great you pointed out that phone addiction is a serious issue and could be potentially triggering for people who went through this or are still going through. Imo addiction in general shouldn’t be made a default action. If we had a trait that makes sim addicted to phone, similar to phone fanatic from Get Famous, that’s totally acceptable and can be use for specific sim only.

Latest patch did toned down this a little and I appreciate that. The animation could get stuck like you describe, sometimes my sim would dig stuff with phone clipping through her hand. But it’s still too much. And werewolves are still taking out their phones while rampaging. It looks stupid at best, because how can they run on all fours with one hand in the air? Bugged feature should be get rid of, not only toned down. Like I understand the idea, teens obsessively using their phones in HSY. But it clearly didn’t work as many people complain about it not only here, but on answers HQ as well, so they should consider removing it and moving on.
