Ways to improve Get To Work and make it worth owning

This is a personal opinion and I’d appreciate negativity be kept to a minimal, you can dislike something and disagree, all I ask is the extremely uncalled for and unreasonable or sensible negativity be kept to ones self or displayed somewhere else. I want to keep this thread open and friendly to simmers usually made uncomfortable by all the usual arguments we see on here and talk about what would improve the active jobs function in a calm and relaxed manner, rather than everyone biting each other’s heads off. And so we begin!

First being extremely obvious, save your sighs for later: MORE JOBS. despite having careers we can be active in, there are only 3, if I’m correct, unless you count running a business as a job In that case it makes 4 but overall we don’t have nearly enough active careers to engage in game and that upsets me because for a pack called GET TO WORK.....where’s the work? We had jobs patched in and then received only a few minior interesting careers to fill in the gaps when personally they should have called the expansion LETS MAKE SCIENCE! Because haven’t you noticed all the active careers involve some type of science, medical, criminal, space age, etc, it’s like they couldn’t think of anything other than science and released dine out on the side because it never occurred to them to make working at a restaurant an active culinary career rather than a poorly designed pack. No offense to the software team but it is lacking.

Second: what types of jobs? Military, acting, financial, building, cab driver, pilot, train operator, therapist, stylist, manager at various companies or stores, dog walker, carpenter, firefighter, cop, photographer, the list goes on and I want you to help with suggestions because the options are endless so comment below what you want to see as a job.

Third: What’s the deal with aliens?! EA throw us aliens and give no depth to them whatsoever apart from a secret unlockable area to visit via portal, even then it’s just plants and hills, where’s the homes, the tech, the story, ships, weird food and alien couples with their rebel kids taking the ship for a test drive in the middle of space? Why are we given a blank occult sim which we have to work on ourselves rather than be given premade families to shake things up? Since owning GTW I have not seen a single game made teen alien or child or elder unless I’ve made him or her or them myself. I never get a secret alien family hanging out in town disguised as regular human sims, I don’t get any alien related housing options, I don’t have anything apart from aliens that I need to give life and reason to. I’m not being rude but what the plum? In sims 3 we had ships, alien powers, yes they didn’t have as much depth as sims 2 but it wasn’t as bland as sims 4. Please for the love of lama, in whatever upcoming pack is being designed right now....please make alien families, vampire families too because yes I like Vlad and the brother and sister from Forgotten hollow but again....we need more. Aliens mostly because they haven’t had their own pack and need a reason to be and their own devices and abilities other than to scan brains and sound weird when they speak. Also more alien related outfits, I hate being unable to have any space style outfits or the ability to use the style guide for my aliens because honestly they’d have better style than human sims.

Forth and final for now: consequences to your career choices that affect that sims life and situation in the long run. You work in politics? Be aware your status and whatever scandals happen will haunt you and your kin. An actor on the big screen? Be ready for the stalkers and paps, don’t be a diva because your fellow actors won’t react well to your attitude, also be aware your children and partner will be judged and have their careers made or tarnished by what you do during your career. Yes even once you’re retired what you do can make or break something your children or grandchildren do.
Former world star chef? Your son has a better chance of going up if he gets cooking rather than sticking to the office 9 to 5.
Aspiring cop, protect your family from the threat of danger and be ready for daredevil thieves wanting to risk their lives to break into your home to prove they’re the best.
Retired rocket man? Dozens of former lovers? Lothario of the universe, welllll surprise old man! You have a lil blue daughter wanting to meet her dad for the first time and yes you can reject her Claims and save your marriage, or you can bite the bullet, go see her and out that interstellar affair to your wife of twenty years who could with every right walk away, or she could forgive you, the options are yours but be ready for what’s to come.

I’m going to mention adding cars in a patch which will also give jobs another tweak with carpools with friends and other employees, yes it’s a big feature to throw in but what I loved about sims 2 and 3 was dragging my sim to work in their old banger of a trash can. It added depth and gave me more sense of actually going to a job in game, sounds stupid but it does add depth.

I’m going to end this here on my end and leave you to fill in the gaps. Everyone is welcome and please be constructive. We want to improve sims and make each other feel welcome within the community.

I hope all of you have a great day and happy simming!

  • Agreed. Get to Work is one of my most used packs, and I always do retail. When it comes to the jobs, they had integrate the rewards and careers for the day to day life activity, just like the scientist career, you can create inventions for use everyday. They need to add that. Why can't doctors cure other sims while they aren't at the hospital? Why can't police sims don't care about rules when they are not in the police station? Why does crime only exist in a shift hour of the detective career? Those things can make a significan't change on the way many people play if only they integrate this career on a sims daily life. Did I also mention how we had police but no burglars? They really need to change this pack.

I use GTW quite a lot and probably one of the better expansions for me with Get Together. I think more careers and jobs in general are always needed opposed to them being linked back to an expansion pack. (Please, no more stuff linked back to expansions unless you go 100% in with it.)

I did like that there was the option to work from home with the careers that came in CL rather than disappearing off the lot. I would like to see some more worth while careers to go to like the ones in GTW, but I'm also fine if we got some choices to stay home to do at home work with other careers or expanding on some other ones. I think the career that lost a opportunity is the Police career seeing as we don't have burglars in game and it could have worked in conjunction with the criminal career.

Aliens in GTW are kinda inbetween sims 2 and sims 3 aliens. Since the Sims 2 aliens didn't really have any sort of special interactions like at all. I use to have aliens in disguise in my game, but I believe they got tweaked unfortunately. I rarely see them or any aliens unless its alien night at the bar. Other than having a interaction like abducting sims while having alien 'attacks', the other interactions we have are fine. I would have liked to see some alien related 'food'. I mean the only thing we see come close is what the space taco? Just weird food and that sims probably can't or shouldn't eat alien foods.
  • Just give us working Cash registers then I can say GTW is worth it (I love OFB)
  • Hypothetically speaking, as EA never really had return to a pack to revamped or add somewhat huge additions for an rwith a patch update (just keep it in mind ; don't-get-your-hopes-somewhat essentially speaking).

Now what I would like (that is, If I cared to play the barebone game at all): playable SERVICE careers:
    - Maid.
    - Nanny.
    - Butlet.
    - Repair(wo)man.

I think you get the gist and I don't think I need elaborating. As a maid/nanny, take a visit into somebody house per request, do the necessary respective, return home (except for as butler obviously), get paycheck. Profit.
  • Update: I know this is technically a different genre of the sims series but sims mobile has the ability to not only work actively as a barista but I’m currently on a job involving the fashion industry. Yes it’s on a smaller platform yet they have the time and software to create alternate job options for mobile versions of the sims, yet not the pc for an expansion released ABOUT JOBS.

I know this isn’t much of an update but I just wanted to use this as an example as to WHY EA need to step up and patch the expansion to be better, especially when they’ve just proven they have the ideas In their folders.

This is an off track side comment but it’s needed to add to the argument involving GTW.

Feel free to add to this, again just something I felt should be registered
  • To add, they really need to open up Magnolia Promenade more with more lot space, and have those career lots at least available to visit. As it stands, MP is practically useless to me and only serves as extra space to plop down some lots.

Regarding to the Fashion Career, based on the platforms that The Sims Mobile and The Sims 4, The Sims Mobile is a lot more simpler compared to The Sims 4. For example there isn't a skill for DJ, and less options than the PC Version. If they will introduce the fashion career in the game then it will need to have depth. Even at the animations. While in The Sims Mobile they will only on be variation of an specific animation, if they did it on The Sims 4 they will animate that one animation multiple times for a sad, happy, angry, etc sim based on their emotions. Not to mention they will have to create tons of new design of clothing to accommodate the new object. Don't forget about multitsking, and lastly the moodlets that the sims will receive. Lastly they will need to create objects that are related to that career, such as fashion career themed objects, career rewards, etc.

Completely respect that, Mobile/phone vs Console/PC are each their own very different areas in the gaming design category, they both require completely different forms of software and DATA to create content and I am in no way saying they are similar at all, nor that one is easier than the other despite one being a simpler version, all I am saying is that simpler version of what is based on the sims 4 has content the sims 4 for PC/Console does not. I am aware they've left a good chunk of actual sims 4 content out and right now simmers are having a debate regarding Sims freetime and the point of Sims mobile.

What I am saying is why was fashion not considered while making the sims 4 expansion pack GTW when, despite being a toned down variation, Sims mobile has it, meaning the idea has been thrown around yet not added. Yes staff have plenty on their plate now and have had for a long time as we've seen with the work they put into toddlers, showing they have been busy since the games first release, but again, why was the idea not added previously? Sims mobile is a lesser version but I feel they've put content or the hint of content into that game, a version of sims we didn't really need, when they could have spent the last few years working on the many many packs for the PC and now console versions.

Obviously they have different departments for each console, I don't fool myself thinking it's one big room for ALL the sims games, expansions, game packs, mobile games, etc, no, I have enough sense in my head to know they have many different rooms with many different things happening. But in the idea area where they must all come together to discuss topics, why was Sims mobile and it's content a thought while a series they are currently working on was not? or given half a thought opposed to the latter.

I do see what you're saying and understandably with EA's thing for not spending enough time on anything for it to be decent plays a big part in all of this, but why did they work on sims mobile and put ideas, lesser versions yes, into that game, again, a game we didn't need, rather than make GTW what it was meant to be? A game about work! Yes with every job and topic they'd need realistic animations and content and everything would need to have its own special aspect or else there would be no point as well as everything would have to smoothly multitask and if it didn't it meant release would have to be pushed back, but then that said...why have they worked on so many stuff and game packs rather than focus on expansions? there's alot explaining why GTW is the way it is, but that in itself raises more questions. GTW could have been amazing if they just focused on it rather than create the Sims mobile with it's hint at content, new and recycled.

Sorry for going off on a ramble, Extremely hard to stay on track without a million other side things appearing.
