I hadn't started paying much attention to the trailers until recently (though I would catch a few after the pack's release). I think I'll go back to that. Live streams for me are hit or miss...it's a lot of time I don't have to spend diving into a pack. This last one I did watch. True that the trailers failed to do the pack justice.
What are trailers' purpose anyway? I mean, I thought they were to incite enthusiasm, right? If we shouldn't judge the pack by the trailer anymore than we wouldn't "judge a book by its cover, what are we supposed to do with them?
Any publisher will tell you the cover is one of the most important marketing aspects of any book. I'm just not getting why people are saying that we "shouldn't" judge the pack by the trailers. Of course they are just trailers -- just as book covers are book covers. That doesn't mean they don't play a critical role in how consumers perceive them.
I went from a maybe to a yes on buying the pack. And, largely, it was because of the live stream. But that doesn't mean all of the "complaints" as some people call them (if it's respectful and thoughtful, I see it as constructive criticism or observations) remain unfounded; it simply means there's more depth to the pack than the trailers covered.
Personally, I am still curious as to how the new features will play out long-term and whether or not they will have any negative consequences to my own play style. We will see.
What I do know for sure is that it was enlightening to read other simmers' points-of-view on Eco Lifestyle. What put me off was that, for whatever reason, it seemed to become some sort of contest as to who was "right" or "wrong" about the pack. Here again, simmers for and against the pack made some great points.
All that said, I can't believe the marketing team purposely watered down the trailers to "troll" us. Though I can easily see how it appears that way.
