They never have and probably never will - at least when I play - I've given up on weddings - I have them elope.
I tried the elope feature once. I thought they would go through a rabbit hole or something but instead they just sort of stood in their living room and exchanged vows. Is that normally how it happens? - My caterers don’t even arrive until the weddings almost done. And then they’ll make pancakes :D nobody eats pancakes at a wedding. :D
I usually just have my sims bring a baked cake in their inventory with them that they can put out.
They rank almost as low as hired bartenders in uselessness - GalacticGal5 years agoSeasoned AceI always have my Sims bake their own wedding cake. It's very disconcerting that a cake is about all the caterer knows how to make. I've resorted to making sure I have the Banquetia Plateau table in my game. (I'm uncertain which pack it came with.) Then my Sim only needs to serve all and presto, food! Otherwise the caterers hired tend to make the oddest party-fare. Also, I've noticed that they only bake cakes for the Birthday Party, so annoying.

Yep, that's how it works. They just get married on the spot.- I hope they update so sims can request the caterers to cook anything on the menu.
- At this point weddings are probably more broken than Dine Out and that's saying something.
- permanentrose5375 years agoSeasoned AdventurerYeah I never hire a caterer or mixologist for events like weddings since they tend to never show up or do their job. In fact, for social events that require things like that, I have a few sims on hand in my gallery with specific skills I’ll move into my active household to do things like take photos, cook and tend the bar so much sims don’t have to worry about it

Read the thread and perhaps post in it and describe your issue in detail.
Make sure they can access everything they need, like counter, fridge, stove. - Jooleeyuh5 years agoSeasoned VanguardI love when I've hired a caterer and some idiot guest barges into the kitchen to cook themselves a meal, thereby tying up the stove so the caterer can't bake my cake.

Never trust hired chefs to do their job in the Sims 4. They almost always fail miserably at it.
