I really had a blast with it. You can rush through it just to complete it. (Maybe that way, those that are not into that sort of thing can rush it to play in the world.)
You can very much take your time with it. You could play sims months with the story and do it slowly. It did not feel like there was a sense of urgency until the end.
I think the story is flexible enough that you can play it the way you wish to.
