Oh, wow, that's crazy! I foolishly helped my one Sim to die prematurely. Found out that even though I play on Long, that aging him up to Elder in cas.fulleditmode, the game adds up all the days he's been in play and presto, he died. I went out of that household into Town Management and saw his ghost all of a sudden. What a way to realize a Sim has perished. I was like, say,—what? I won't be making that mistake again.
Can you go back a save? I always use the "Save As …" with the game name (usually my Sims' surname) and a numbering system, so I have them in reasonable order. That way I don't overwrite a save and if need be, I can recapture what I just lost. Problem with losing the Sim I aged up, is I tried to add his additional children into the game. His wife was deceased by then, and I totally made a mess of it. I used copies of this couple (what was I thinking?) of course the added children were forever roommates. Face/palm. Having him die was the capper. I started all over again with this rotation save.

So...just trying to understand what happened, here. You went through the loading screen, evidently? And as soon as the lot became active, BOOM, fire, and BOOM, death?! That is....Savage! Who is Ruth, your Sim, or the Bheedas' daughter? Were you stuck there a while, till all that burned? Any mods?
You know, I never thought, can you even put a sprinkler in apartments? I always put mine outside, so I forget them when I build there. Not that I would necessarily put one in the neighbors apt. It was strange in the livestream, when a Sim caught fire at the stove, the sprinkler put her out after forever. But the Sims standing ten feet away also caught fire. The sprinkler was only over the one by the stove, so needless to say, RIP....

Yeah, just go over, and BOOM! LOL. Ruth is the daughter of the Bheedas, I didn't know if it was MCCC work or normal family, so I didn't bother mentioning that.
I had a broken mod/piece of CC (never really found out, but it was in a bundle and broke my game with a patch) that made it so I couldn't knock on doors, therefore I couldn't enter their house. I was stuck until every piece of invisible furniture burned.
