My playstyle is a generational/rotation play so I have all lifestages present. Even elders. But whenever I start over, including when I started my very first play (the one I play almost exclusivly) I always start with YAs. Usually one Sim or a married couple.
If I do a roomate/apartments household the ages can vary. For instance, I created a 6 Sim household that had one teen and one toddler. It was a Single mom (YA) with a toddler. A married couple (both adult) with the teen and one single woman (adult) to fit into my 3 apartment building I downloaded from the Gallery and customised.
